The NMAT has distributed a poster calling for the destruction of anyone seen by them as being supportive of the LTTE. Following upon the heels of this poster, Champika Ranawaka, member of the JHU that is an ally of the NMAT, who joined the ranks of Ministers in a tidal wave of Ministers had in an interview with Ravaya threatened to destroy any dissent even with the use of exrtra-judicial methods. Stabbing to death someone who is seen as a dissenter is an extra-judicial method. So is the use of grenades and the TR56. In the Ravaya interview, Ranawaka refers to those of different views as ‘bastards’ and attacks the ‘wild donkey freedom’ that a democracy ensures its citizens.

History is familiar with many extreme rightists who inevitably develop a fascist frame of mind. Champika is a growing fascist baba and as the days go by we are bound to see this fascism grow.

Rajitha Senaratne, once active peace trooper, has just escaped the guillotine of Champika by joining the jumbo cabinet. He is dash lucky and would have gone to a good astrologer before he took his decision. I am for a wise measure of both militarism and diplomacy (pacifism) but due to my pacifist component my days of going back to see my land of birth are gone unless before that Champika falls on his sword as would be the eventual fate of many fascists.

Haven’t you realised that the world of Champika and the world of the LTTE terrorist is similar? They both are for crushing dissent by killing. They are both anti-democratic; not believing in the path of discussion, negotiation, and compromise in solving relationship problems. They both reject the idea that anyone has an inalienable human right to free expression. Of course, such freedom of expression is carefully preserved for themselves. Whether one lives in the world of Champika or the world of Prabhakaran thus makes little difference because one is equally enslaved in both.
