Beckett, Blake, Blair, Mann, Holt, and Howell talk of Human Rights Violations in Sri Lanka, while their own backyards are infested with Human Rights Violations,By Charles PereraSri Lanka has become the breeding place of Human Rights activists of all colour and shapes. They pop up like wild mushroom after monsoon rains. On top of that we have the Amnesty International, Lawyers of New Jersey, Washington Post, numerous NGOs, UNHRS and what not. You name it , and we have it. Why do these Ambassadors, visiting Government Representatives, Senators
from America, and the Norwegian Ministers, make a beeline to Sri Lanka
to make their vituperations is a mystery ? Sri Lanka is
not the only place in the world where human rights have been violated.
Beckett, Blake, Blair, It is like the story about Who will bell the cat ? The mice who could not run about looking for food in a house because of the cat decided to tie a bell round the neck of the cat so that they will know when the cat is near or far, to safely run to get their food . Every body clapped their hands and said it was a good idea. Then a wise old mouse asked them who will bell the Cat ? These great High Priests come here to tell the government of Sri Lanka to negotiate peace with the terrorists, but none of them dare go to Kilinochchi and meet Prabhakaran to use threat on him or invite him, to come for peace negotiations. Even if they go to Kilinochchi they cannot get past Thamilselvam to reach the Sun God. Why preach to others what they cannot do them selves ? They all fear the terrorists and fear to speak against them as the LTTE terrorist sympathisers are in all the countries of the world and they could easily set up as many suicide bombs, against as many of these big shots, if they dare talk of human rights violations by LTTE terrorists ? Therefore they accuse only the government, which is composed of decent people who will accept any thing with a stupid smile. They who come to verify whether the government of Sri Lanka is violating human rights against its people, have only turn to their back yards to see how full it is of violations against human rights of their own people who are being subjected to discrimination for their colour, religion and sex on a daily basis. They allow collection of funds by terrorist agents to arm the terrorists in Sri Lanka , when their own people lack proper lodgement, health facilities, welfare benefits, and education facilities. Large numbers of their fellow citizens live below poverty line. The prisoners in Guantanamo prisons are subjected to harassment and inhuman treatments, in Sangatte immigrant camp in France, many people suffer without none to look into their welfare. In many countries the asylum seekers are thrown into refugee camps, men women and children, and no one bothers about the violation of human rights of these people. I read recently that a Human Rights Organization wants to set up their office in Sri Lanka. The government should not allow it. They should be asked to set up their office in Iraq or Israel and not here. They like it here because the government is lenient towards foreigners, want bother them and they will be received with honour. All doors , those of the President, the Prime Minister, the Ministers, and those of the high Society will be open to them. They will be invited to their cocktails, anniversaries, functions and dinners. White Westerners are the most sought after friends in Sri Lanka, though those friends may not recognise a Sri Lankan friend if he were to call on them in their own countries. Sri Lanka is the cheapest holiday resort to a foreigner and they can dine in posh hotels and sun bath in private sea beaches. Therefore they flock to Sri Lanka, to check on violation of human rights, or set up homes for the fisher folk or displaced persons. There are also human rights violations in the Arab Countries, Kuwait, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon. Why dont the Human Rights watch set up their offices in those countries ? They will of course not be at home in those countries, where, alcohol and, parties are restricted. The LTTE terrorism gives these foreigners an easy passport to drift on to our shores. It is time that we ask these foreign do gooders to pack up and go unless they shut up and do their job without making a hullabaloo about it . |
