Community Forum on Sri Lanka

Asoka Weerasinghe Gloucester . Ontario .Canada

December 19, 2007

Hon. Stephane Dion, PC., MP
Leader of the Liberal Party & the Opposition House of Commons Ottawa

Dear Mr. Dion:

A press release from the office of your caucus member Derek Lee, Liberal MP for Scarborough-Rouge River, notifying that he will host a Community Forum on December 22, 2007, with other Toronto MPs to discuss the continuing conflict of Sri Lanka, landed on my desk last evening. The roundtable will feature a panel of federal Members of Parliament, journalists and academics who will make short presentations on their views of the continuing conflict in Sri Lanka, it announced. The venue will be the Scarborough City Centre.

I have absolutely no inkling who the participants will be, but I could certainly make an educated guess as to who some of the “other Toronto areas MPs” would be. They no doubt will be Liberal MPs who have fought for their Tamil constituents to establish their mono-ethnic, separate Tamil state, Eelam, and blocked every effort by the Conservative party to ban the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as a terrorist organization in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution Number 1373 of September 2001. Pray! If this has been the case, then where will be the impartiality on Sri Lanka’s conflict when it is discussed by these blinkered Toronto federal parliamentarians at this Forum?

With that assumption, I can imagine this nest of MPs like a bunch of mice getting together on that day, to plot how to bite off a block of cheese which is in the shape of Sri Lanka, just enough to leave one-third of it in the shape of the proposed Eelam, when the island’s guardian, the Sinha (lion, the symbol in the national flag)) has its moments of distraction. Your Toronto caucus knows well that chewing at Sri Lanka will satisfy their 100,000 Tamil constituents, who might rejoice in unison, flaying their arms and shouting */Ella seriar ilke,
Nandri/* (Very good, Thank you), promising to stuff their 100,000 votes into ballot boxes come next spring federal election.

My suspicion is rife that your Toronto caucus couldn’t care even two wedges of French fries about Sri Lanka which is 15-thousand miles away, but only care how to be cunning to garner ever Tamil vote to re-enter parliament the next time around. The explanations in my Liberal Rogues Gallery will explain to you why I think so.

1. Derek Lee (MP for Scarborough-Rougue River), host of this Community Forum, eulogized the late leading Tamil Tiger terrorist Anton Balasingham at his wake, who by right should have been brought to the International Court of Justice and charged for war crimes, a he was the head honcho of the massacre of 700 policemen in the eastern province, who had surrendered to them as ordered by President Premadasa with the expressed agreement with Balasingham that they would be sent south alive and from harms way. These policemen who were blind folded with their arms tied at their backs were shot dead through their skulls. So where will be his impartiality at the Forum, may I ask, other than being succour to the Tamil Tiger separatist terrorist movement I smell a rat here, Stephane!

2. Maria Minna (MP for Beaches-East York) attended the 60-dollar plate fund raising dinner for the Tamil Tigers terrorists on May 6, 2000, organized by FACT a front organization for the Tamil Tiger terrorists. Who on earth would want to trust this MP to be impartial in the Sri Lankan conflict. She professes to be a Friend of Sri Lanka. What a bunch of Italian boloney?

3 Jim Karygiannis (MP for Scarborough-Agincourt), a Tamil Tiger sympathizer who has participated in almost every Tamil Tiger event and has hoisted the Canadian Flag beside the Tamil Tiger terrorist flag elevating the Tamil Tiger de facto, Eelam as a nation in diplomatic parlance. That act to denigrate the Canadian National Flag when we new immigrants are told to respect the national symbols should not go without remission. If 87% of Greek parents believe a good hard spanking is sometimes necessary and is a socially acceptable punishment, so be it. Karygiannis should be subjected to such punishment for denigrating a national symbol so that he would never again hoist the Canadian flag beside the Tamil Tiger terrorist flag. Would you hoist the Canadian flag beside an FLQ flag? I have my doubts you will. He also attended the fund raising dinner for the Tamil Tigers with Maria Minna. Well, Karygiannis will have it difficult to convince me and many others that he would be impartial at this Community Forum.

4. Judy Sgro (MP for York West) has an unchristian attitude when dealing with the peoples of Sri Lanka. According to her psyche, Tamils are the only children of God while she couldn’t care two hoots for Muslims and Sinhalese of Sri Lanka. She painted you Liberals as a bunch of haughty, arrogant, heartless opportunistic politicians when after the Tsunami, as the Minister of Immigration and Citizenship she vowed to send her Immigration officers to the Tami controlled areas in Sri Lanka to help expedite Immigration applications. What she ignored was that the most Tsunami effected ethnic communities were the Muslims and Sinhalese. That’s how brutal she was. Being heartless and cruel. It was easy to comprehend why she wanted to bring only the Tamils over to Canada. That certainly was a good opportunity to add to the Liberal voter bank by the thousands. Ha! How heartless and cunning can you Liberals be! And do you think we wouldn’t see through this Citizen Forum’s humbug. How impartial can Judy Sgro be?

And what more, Stephane? This arrogant Liberal parliamentarian of yours announced in Parliament that she didn’t have to get permission from the Sri Lankan Government to send her Immigration Officers to Jaffna. I told her in a letter, that there was something called international protocol an that she should get off her high horse and take a basic course in Diplomacy 101.

5. Borys Wrzesnewskyj (Etobicoke Centre), the rookie MP tripped through freezing rain drops on that cold Markham evening to stand in vigil with eight other Liberal MPs and 10 thousand Tamils cursing at the Sri Lankan government for bombing a meeting place of S.P.Thamilselvan, the leader of the Political Wing of the Tamil Tigers and killing him. He was posthumously Crowned as the’ Dove of Peace’ by you Liberals. That was embarrassing when Thamilselvan was a military fatigued assassin, a mastermind of massacres of innocent unarmed civilians. He joined the LTTE as a child soldier in 1984 and received military training in Indira Gandhi’s India, and he played a pivotal role in a number attacks killing thousands of innocent civilians as well as armed forces including the recent assaults on Kilaly, Muhamalai and Nagarkovil Forward Defence Lines. And do you honestly believe that Borys will be impartial if he is a participant at this Forum ?

Count me out Stephane, to be a dim wit. I don’t have to read Canadian Liberal Party’s Stupidity for Dummies to understand the Liberal ploy of Derek Lee’s Community Forum – to be visible among Tamils before an election to say that we are with you buddies, and give us your votes!

6. So have been the rookie MPs, Mark Holland (Ajax-Pickering), Yasmin
Ratansi (Don Valley East) and Lui Tenmelmovski (Oak Ridges-Markham),
who didn’t have a clue about this war and purposely ignored the human rights violations by the Tamil Tigers who by then had exploded 278 human suicide bombs, when they joined their Pied Pipers Maria Minna and Jim Karygiannis at the vigil for Thamilselvan. I don’t think they ever knew that most of these suicide bombers had been brain washed since they were abducted children to be trained as child soldiers For these MPs to be impartial at this Forum will be a hoot and tricky and very likely be caught blushing with embarrassment when their conscience will prick them as a bunch of opportunistic fools. So much for honesty.

7. John McKay (Scarborough-Guildwood) another sympathizer of the Tamil Tiger Eelam cause, when flayed by the Editorials of the National Post, Ottawa Citizen, Globe and Mail, Toronto Star and the Toronto Sun for attending the huge memorial service for S.P. Thamilselvan on November 5 in Markham tried to explain himself by responding to the editorials with a letter to the Editor.

The Globe and Mail editorial asked “What were those MP thinking?” But my question was “What were those MPs smoking that morning?”

“I am not here to take sides he said” in his letter. But what he did not realize was that being there at the vigil itself showed that he was taking the side of the Tamil Tiger’s and gave legitimacy to that terrorist group. That was a weak and a stupid defense. So do I expect him to be impartial at this Community Forum? Of course, Not. Far from it!

8. Alan Tonks (York South-Weston) and John McCallum (Markham-Unionville) presented petitions to parliament on behalf of their Tamil constituents. Both petitions expressed their concerns of the Sri Lankan Government’s violation of Human Rights. But not a word of the Tamil Tiger Human Rights violations. One petition wanted the Canadian government to stop the Sri Lankan Government from using extra force in their battles against the Tamil Tiger terrorists. Tonks and McCallum should have told their constituents when their terrorists want to live by the gun, that they better be prepared to die by the gun without being a bunch of whiners.

But surely Stephane, the Liberals wouldn’t want to see the Tamil Tigers fighting with claymore mines, Kalasnikovs and RPGs, and expected the Sri Lankan armed forces to counter them with, catapults and stones and bamboo sticks. Get real you Liberals! I cannot trust Alan Tonks nor John McCallum to be impartial at the Community Forum.

9. Bob Rae, I hope will bring some partiality to this Forum as he knows the situation in Sri Lanka fairly well having gone to Sri Lanka to talk to the Tamil Tigers of the virtues of federalism. And all what he found out was that ‘Federalism’ was the “Fxxx” word in the Tamil Tiger lexicon. That they want nothing to do with a democratic solution other than their piece of real estate for their mono-ethnic, racist, Tamil state, Eelam carved out of that puny island, Sri Lanka. Will I trust him? May be as I will have to wait and see!

See Stephane, the lack of trust in your Liberal caucus to be impartial when discussing the Sri Lankan Tamil separatist war, is dripping away like melting Arctic glaciers due to global warming and going nowhere in particular.

But you and your caucus should be cognizant of a few facts

If the Community Forum is a stage to try to persuade the Canadian Government to intervene and bully its way to ask the Sri Lankan Government to let the UN establish a Human Rights monitoring station in Sri Lanka, I like to remind you and your Liberal parliamentarians that you have no monopoly on Human Rights when we have an appalling record over the rights of our Indigenous Peoples.

“Astonishing that Canada has refused to support the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples which passed in the General Assembly two months ago by a vote of 143-4”. Do you know who said that Stephane?.

It was our own Supreme Court Justice and now the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louise Arbour. So we have no right to look at the eyes of Sri Lanka and say – Ha! We are Holier than Thou and do what we preach to you.

In October 1970, when Canada was in the wake of a French separatist uprising which saw Pierre Laporte the Provincial Minister of Labour killed, the abduction of James Cross, the Trade Commissioner of the British High Commission, and a few mail box bomb explosions, what did Canada do?

We evoked the draconian War Measures Act. And that too to deal with a separatist armoury of a grand total of 33 firearms, and 21 other offensive weapons including 3 smoke grenades, 9 hand knives and 1 sabre.

And do you know what Stephane? The Sri Lankan government has to deal with an India trained army of terrorists who brought in 7 ship loads of sophisticated war weapons after the Ceasefire Agreement was signed in February 2002, and the Nordic Peace Monitors looked the other way. They were looking after their babies that they had fed and cushioned with millions of kronor.

So ask your caucus to slow down and be cautious when dealing with the Sri Lankan separatist war to appease their Tamil constituents as they would never, ever be clones of the late “Saviour of Ceylon” our own the late Commodore Leonard Birchall. who saved Ceylon (Sri Lanka) from a Japanese attack during World WarII.

And one more fact before I close this letter to you. Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative in Geneva, Ambassador Dayan Jayethilleka said during the 6^th Session of UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, “ We don’t want to be preached by states whose human rights record was far from perfect”. And I believe that Canada’s permanent representative heard those words loud and clearly and might have witnessed the Canadian “We are Holier Than Thou” pompous attitude crumble at his feet.

So my words to the Liberal Community Forum hosted by Derek Lee which I have little trust in, take a deep breath and cut out your intentions of preaching to Sri Lanka that “ We are Holier than Thou”, as we are certainly not.

Have a good Holiday Season and I wish you a Merry Christmas.
