Would Sri Lankans realize the hole they are digging for themselves?Sisira PereiraMPs Mr. Mangala Samaraweera and Mr. Sreepathi Sooriyaarachchi are trying to organize a new political front, and the news has it that the former President Mrs. Kumarathunga will be invited to lead it. The JVP is trying to knock the Government down, threatening with general strikes, voting against and trying to destabilize the Government in parliament, while publicly claiming that they support the SL troops. What support they mean by that is anybody's guess! The many news articles carries pictures of overjoyed and jubilant Sri Lankans (how many I have no clue) surrounding the ousted ministers after their great cross over in Parliament . The so called Free Media Movement is voicing "grave concerns" that Tamilnet, the main LTTE terrorist propaganda medium, is being blocked by the Government. They carry it around under the guise that it is an action against free media (the Free Media Movement conveniently ignores the fact that the SL government is fighting the most ruthless terrorist outfit in the world, not baby sitting them) The main opposition UNP's leader and his followers are going around the country and overseas asking the International Community to help to topple the Government and remove Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksha from the Defence Secretary post and request to stop the aid to Sri Lanka (Are they really Sri Lankan, one might wonder!!). When all these are taken together and looked at , one would see that the timing of all these acts are coinciding with the great victories our devoted and able Men & Women in uniform are achieving in the harsh theatre of war in the East and in the North of Sri Lanka. More than ever before, our Military leadership, coupled by correct political leadership towards the war on terror against the ruthless terrorist outfit LTTE, alongwith the courages and non-retreating men and women of the valian tri forces of Sri Lanka, are crushing the LTTE in their last stronghold in Thoppigala and in the North, both on land and sea. Yet, we see all these die hard attempts by the Sri Lankan "entities" mentioned above, to destabilize the government and bring about some conducive "scenario" that would ideally give the much needed breathing space to the limping terrorists to gather themselves up, procure more resources and live to fight against our own military forces with their final bloody aim of creating social, political and military chaos in the island, which would lead to their dream of dividing the country. We see many a Sri Lankan public too following suit supporting
these unpatriotic forces, rallying round the sabotage campaigns, shouting
at the depth of their voices in the guise of free movement of some doggone
something under the sun or hooraying for those who are hell-bent on
destroying the current military thrust against the LTTE, whose sheer
terrorism has master-minded two and a half decades of death and destruction
for this beautiful country. At a time when the LTTE terrorist sympathisers all over
the world are rallying round the LTTE to save the dying terrorist organization
out of humiliation and defeat, what is saddest to see is that our own
fellow people, divided by the petty desires for political power and
money, individual goals and confused ideologies, are also acting in
the same manner, as if they belong to the ruthless LTTE, to help those
terrorist forces without giving due consideration to what all Sri Lankans
true contribution for the Motherland today really is. If one had the chance of watching the military channels dedicated to the US forces, they would be impressed to see how they are showered with encouraging and heart warming, patriotic messages coming from the general public of all walks of life ranging from children to the old citizens, saluting the men and women in uniform in their messages, for their ultimate sacrifices and bravery. And there you would see that a significant moral building message is highlighted, and it says "America Supports You"!!, the message from home being sent accross to the fighting forces. And there, there are no divisions in opinion, just unanimous support and encouragement. And this message is aired frequently with a view to build patriotism and to boost the courage and moral of the fighting soldier, who is serving away from his/her family in the name of his/her country, to let him/her know that his/her fellow countrymen are with them all the way, wishing they would succeed in their valiant attempt to fight terrorism and wishing that they would return safe to their homes. This is where the public of a war-torn country like Sri
Lanka should take a cue too, instead of running after some nut-loose
politicos and NGO henchmen just to get close and win some bread and
butter, while jeopardizing the country's dignity, security and soverignty
and there by knowingly or unknowingly leading the brave youth of our
armed forces to the den of the terrorists to no avail time after time.
And if these inconsiderate factions of the public continue to behave
in the same manner at this crucial time in the war against the LTTE
terrorists, they would be no turning back this time. It will be now or never for Sri Lanka. The unpatriotic forces that operate openly and hideously to dismantle the military advance to crush the LTTE will gain milage only if the general public queue behind them and supports them, without which they will be isolated and doomed to become forces blown out of proportions to reckon with. Whether or not the Sri Lankans would do the duty of the
hour will reamin to be seen and let us hope that they will see the light
of things sooner than later. Let there be a day sooner than later when
the Sri Lankans will realize and kick the butts of those, both here
and abroad, who try to thrive on political and social destability with
the view to putting a stop to the forward march of the valian Sri Lankan
armed forces. |
