A DESPOTIC ALLIANCE TO TOPPLE THE GOVERNMENT AND REINSTATE CORRUPT CHANDRIKA

Signing of a Moadayinge Olmaada Upaaya (MOU) between the Junk-UNP and the outcasts of the SLFP, the dual member Moastara Parshadaya, over personal vendetta on the President and his brothers which some reactionary media distorted and bloated as going to be a very significant event has taken place in a Parliamentary Committee Room incapable of having all the fanfare the dreamers dreamt. The event not only lost its momentum at its very inception, but was also boycotted by some prominent members of the Junk-UNP. The document believed to be partly compiled by the Professional Designer of the ignominious group offers no solution to the country’s burning issues but proposes for the establishment of a fascist form of administration without any room for political pluralism (identical with terrorist leader Prabhakaran’s model of administration) and pave the way for the disgraceful Chandrika’s re-entry to the Government through the back door without people’s consent.

It had been dreamt by the dreamers to hold the event on a grand scale, similar to all meaningful and indispensable MOUs signed in the recent past, having a flamboyant show with the attendance of several thousand people and using BMICH as the venue. An attempt made by a notorious business tycoon to get the BMICH reserved for this purpose under a false pretext by paying a huge amount from his hoarded black money ended in failure and hence the dreamers were forced to hold the ceremony in a Committee Room of the Parliament without any fanfare.

Forming a political grouping with Mr. Mangala Samaraweera’s Moastara Parshadaya (Models Wing), which cannot even command memberships to fill a mini-bus, dropping the party name with a historical value together with the party symbol totally ignoring strong oppositions from senior party members, and naming the political grouping as “The National Congress” shows the political bankruptcy of the Junk-UNP and the enormity of Ranil Wickremasinghe’s desperate greed to power.

The signed document released under the title “The Dawn of a New Era” is an empty document with borrowed ideas and phrases from many past documents. It has been carefully crafted to confuse and mislead the masses. The new political grouping has kept the Treasurer post of the grouping reserved for the terrorist proxy TNA and it confirms that there is a secret arrangement between the terrorist proxy TNA and the grouping is a tripartite arrangement. It is clearly stated in the document under 6.4 that “the Treasurer of the National Congress will be from any other political party in the National Congress.”

The form of government promised is a scornful fascist form of government denying any type of political pluralism as is the vision of Prabhakaran to have a monoethnic Eelam without any room for political pluralism. This matter is clearly stipulated under 6.8.3 of the documents as follows:

“All rural development programmes will be carried out through Local Development Committees. Ministers and Deputy Ministers will only be allowed to hold the Chairmanship of the Local Development Committee of his or her electorate. Other government members of Parliament will hold Chairmanships of Development Committees of other electorates / Divisional Secretariat areas, apart from the Chairmanship in his or her own electorate.” Only government Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Government Parliamentary Members will be in charge of any development work without any room for Members of the Opposition, if they were allowed to exist, to participate in the development of the country.

Disregarding people’s revulsion towards the former President Chandrika Kumaratunge for her colossal misappropriation, misuse and waste of public funds the document has given priority to provide her an easy access route to enter the Parliament. Under Clause 1.3 of the document it is stated that provision will be made “to include a maximum of three (03) persons who are not Members of Parliament but with exceptional specialization, to the cabinet of ministers. These three Ministers can be excluded from the parliamentary majority. ” This is a clear indication the group’s commitment to revive this political discard and this may be one of the agreement reached between Ranil Wickremasinghe and her in the long discussion they had one week after the Presidential Election on 24th November 2005, and in several meetings prior to the Presidential election. Letter sent by Chandrika congratulating the formation of this sinister group is a further proof of this underhand political nexus.

As regards the vital issue concerning the country, the liberation of the areas in the North from terrorist occupation, (gifted by Ranil Wickremasinghe through CFA), under Clause 2.1, the document states that they would find a solution within 09 months to the ethnic conflict that has been dragged for decades. This is a clear hint that they have already reached a clandestine agreement on this issue as it was not possible for Ranil Wickremasinghe to find a solution within his 2 years of his dark rule, even with all kinds of appeasement and betrayal of the armed forces.

However, Clause 2.2 of the document confuses and contradicts 2.1 and says “a major offensive will be launched with the support of all people and with the support of the international community to eradicate terrorism and separatism from Sri Lanka and to launch such an offensive the three forces will be provided with necessary modern arms and equipment.” This clause is a deliberate jester statement to mislead the public and the armed forces. If it is their sincere objective, why they talk of federal arrangements and why they sternly criticise the present military operations and strengthening of the armed forces with modern weaponry and fail to recognize the great feat of liberating the East by the armed forces.. This is one of the clear self-contradictory clauses in the document and a self-contradictory issues relating to their present politics.

It is a well known fact that Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe did not trust the expertise and capabilities of our professionals and intellectuals during his two-year dark rule and all his advisors and consultants were foreigners including advisors to some important Ministries. In continuation of this shameless policy as well as to hush the prevalent objections for privatisation of our national assets, the documents in Clause 3.4 states that they would “access international expertise or skills to reform and rehabilitate state institutes considered economically extremely important as productive and efficient organizations, instead of privatizing them”. This clearly says that important economic institutions will be handed over for management by the foreigners.

The main objective of this UNP-Moastara Wing-TNA tripartite combine is to bring disrepute to the government, stall the military operations and eventually topple the government by undemocratic means. How can Mr. Mangala Samaraweera, who previously accused Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe as a cheat who had distributed state land to a company consisting his mother and relatives, then lodged a complaint with the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission against Mr. Wickremesinghe alleging that while being Prime Minister in 2003 committed a fraud involving Rs. 340 million in connection with a transaction to supply 39 computers with necessary appliances, find companionship with such a cheat and a fraudster and accuse the President now in a similar vain?

Sri Lankans are politically matured and have seen many versions of political bamboozles in its post colonial era. Mr. Samaraweera is reported to have told some people in Matara that if he failed to topple this government soon, he would quit politics and settle down in London. He would at least find Chandrika in London, and what would be destination for Mr. Wickremasinghe? Recently there were e-mail messages attached with the photograph of a flight belonging to an Airline called PONAIR together with Mr. Wickremasinghe’s famous sobbing photograph. (Ponair is Eunuch in Sinhala). Will his destination be a Ponair flight to Kilinochchi?
