All those who oppose the President and his Government at this crucial moment
are aiding and abetting terrorism.

By Charles Perera

What is happening to our people ? Having gone through so much of humiliation in the hands of a handful of ruthless terrorists for several decades we have at last been given a chance to overcome this humiliation to raise our heads once again as a proud and a free nation. But then due to the bickerings of a few selfish politicians seeking self aggrandisement through leverage into political power, without any love for the country, we are going to loose the opportunity to over throw terrorism, once and for all, and feel free and proud as a nation.

After over five years of hardship, sacrifice of young valorous soldiers who have given their lives and blood for their mother land to make it free and undivided, it is sacrilege to stand in the way of the government and the security forces who are at last beginning to see the light beyond the tunnel of pain and suffering.

It had been from the South that forces had emerged in the past to rescue the country from the Cholas and the Pandavaas, to re-establish the unitary status of the Sri Lankan Nation. It is now a family from the South that has once again challenged the terrorists and come forward to shove them off from their jungle dens and rescue our dear land from being mutilated, divided and desecrated.

The Samaraweeras, Sooriyarachchis, Wickramasinghes are neither heroes nor honourable leaders of the people of Sri Lanka. They are vicious men with no national pride and not worthy of being accepted as political leaders.
Because of their lost pride having been sacked from the political positions they held and licking their still smarting wounds they attempt to take vengeance from the President Mahinda Rajapakse, holding the whole nation to ransom.

Wickremasinghe on the other hand having been tricked by the astrologers, duped by the terrorists, let down by the seniors of his own party , wants to be back in power by hook or by crook, and does all the damage he could to the President hoping that he could replace him and sit himself on the Presidential chair.

But why are the JVP men who so far showed intelligence and patriotism are also seeking vengeance from a President who had not stopped asking them to join his government to jointly carry out a progressive programme of development.

The worst is that these persons are joining together to topple the government of the President Mahinda Rajapakse just when the war against the terrorists is gathering force and the downfall of the terrorists is imminent. JVP with their big mouthed leadership along with Lal Kantha , and Handunetti perhaps imagine that the fall of Mahinda Rajapakse’s government will give them a chance to win the elections to form a government of their own. But the JVP on their own has no modicum of a chance to win an election to form a government. They will have to depend on either the SLFP or the UNP, or perhaps the TNA to form even a coalition government. Their popularity they measure from the numbers they could muster for an anti government demonstration. The numbers at demonstrations do not guarantee a peoples’ vote at an election. If they are wise and intelligent they should join the government of Mahinda Rajapakse at least now without eroding
what ever popularity they may still have. It is true that all those politicians and non-political individuals and Organisations, critical of the government at the present moment could be called terrorist sympathisers as they by opposing the government are aiding and abetting terrorism.

Apart from the political enemies of the Mahinda Rajapakse government, there are other vicious elements, who indirectly help Prabhakaran to lead his terror vultures, and weaken a strong government determined to end terrorism.
The Free Media has said that Sri Lanka is the worst place for journalists to be working in. They seem to forget the numbers of journalists kidnapped some of them kept prisoners and others killed in Iraq, Colombia , Peru etc.
