Chicago Public Radio interviewAkila Weerasekera CaliforniaIn a recent Chicago Public Radio interview, Fred Abrahams, Senior Researcher for Emergencies, Human Rights Watch and Sunila Abeysekera of INFORM human rights documentation center in Sri Lanka attacked the Sri Lankan government on human rights violations. The interview was just another chapter of bias, misinformation propaganda campaigns conducted by anti Sri Lankan NGOs. There was no mention what so ever regarding any LTTE atrocities or human rights violations. On Karuna's situation, Abrahams said that if Britain extradites Karuna to Sri Lanka, HRW believes Colombo will not prosecute him and will likely engineer killing Karuna. Fred Abraham also mentioned that for this reason and for international justice to be served he would like to see Britain prosecuting Karuna. War crimes committed by malicious Prabhakaran, Anton Balasingham or Adella Balasigham seemed obsolete to him. This is the same Fred Abraham who gave false information to the western media in regard to the conflict between Israel and Palestine, mainly accusing the Israeli security forces of attacking civilian targets and accusing the Serbian security forces of human rights violations in Kosovo while Kosovo rebels were killing innocent Serbs (he was a witness to the Slobodan Milosevic trial). Sunila Abesekera who is probably on the LTTE payroll tried her best to convince the listeners by saying that these so called abductions are carried out only by the Sri Lankan security forces and Karuna group. Another interesting comment made by her was that the Hindu and Muslim communities in the east are living in harmony and the majority Sinhalese are in the midst of destroying their long-term harmony. She went onto say that her own life is in danger by the Sri Lankan security forces and that one time Buddhist monks tried to kill her in her office. Throughout the interview neither of them mentioned any suicide bombings in the capital, recent bus bombings which claimed many civilian lives including children or LTTE's child recruitment. It is clear that the sole purpose of the interview was to attack the
Rajapakse government of being incompetent and show the rest of the world
that the Sinhalese majority, Buddhist monks and so called ultra-nationalistic
political parties are discriminating the Tamil and Muslim minorities
while the LTTE was portrayed as freedom fighters. The GOSL should recognize
these so called NGOs as a potential threat to the national security
and start taking necessary steps to prevent any spreading of disinformation
and keep a close eye on their propaganda campaigns. |
