SLAF raids Thoppigala as LTTE step up fresh attacks - BatticaloaMinistry of Defence, Public Security, Law & Order -Immediately retaliating to the LTTE heavy mortar shell attack endangering the lives of over 30 foreign and local dignitaries, the SLAF airborne fighter jets pounded on an identified terrorist base at the un-cleared area in Thoppigala today(27), at 11:20 a.m. Military officials confirmed that the air sorties were conducted on pre-identified LTTE Heavy mortar launching pads, with potentiality of endangering civilian life in the east Batticaloa area. However, according to defence sources the UN and special foreign envoys accompanied by the Minister of Disaster Management, Mahinda Samarasinghe, has continued with the progressive discussion rounds, initiated on the recent development and resettlement projects in the tensed eastern boundaries. The discussions were held as scheduled, with the participation of local representatives and Humanitarian aid workers under commendable security measures, amidst provocative LTTE heavy mortar shell attacks. According to intelligence circles, the LTTE has deliberately taken on the attack with least respect to the presence of foreign and local dignitaries, to dictate that they still are a formidable force, despite the humiliating flush from the Vakarai area, recently. Last week the LTTE terrorists blamed the Western nations for seeking a solution for Sri Lanka, restricted by concerns for Sri Lanka's sovereignty and territorial integrity. They vowed to fight to carve out a separate state from Sri Lanka. The LTTE is a proscribed 'Terrorist Organisation' in many countries
including the United States, United Kingdom, India, Canada and the
25 nation European Union.
