Somawansa Amarasinghs Dream, will take JVP in to the fold of UNPBy Charles PereraAll those Politically failed politicians are dreamers. Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathy Sooriyaarachchi have begun a challenge of a dream while JVP build its dream on a Broad Peoples Front. They are both failures. Neither Mangala Samaraweera nor Sooriaarchchi has the capability of
leadership. They are born to serve and not to lead the people. Somawansa
Amarasinghe has neither the ability to appeal for the people to rally
round him, nor has he the personality that inspire confidence of the
masses. Talking over a loud-speaker addressing the masses is one thing, forming a government and leading a nation on the path of progress is another thing. This is not the first time that a Marxist Party launches a Political front with the intention of forming a Peoples’ Government. Mahajana Eksath Peramuna that brought together the LSSP lead by N.M.Perera, C P lead by Peter Keunaman, and the VSSP by Philippe Gunawardhana was acclaimed by the people with great expectation. And unlike Somawansa Amarasinghe or Samaraweera, the men who lead those left parties were political colossuses. But yet they soon broke up and Philippe Gunawardhane ended up a meek Minister under Dudley Senanayake in the UNP. Then the LSSP wanted to campaign alone an election to form its own
government, and it turned out to be an utter failure. And the PA and
the UPFA are recent history. The Broad Peoples Front will not
last long and even if they continue to face an election they will never
get a respectable JVP was a potentially progressive political party. It is losing its
credibility because of an extra ambitious leader of the party who had
been promoted to that position apparently as a mark of respect to its
Origin as a revolutionary party under its late leader Rohana Wijeweera,
and also for the reason of his command of English in contrast to the
other leaders of the party. JVP if sanity prevails should join with
the President to together develop Sri Lanka after the end of terrorism,
the day of which cannot be very far from the way the Security Forces
are active in its object of elimination of terrorism from Sri Lanka.
If not JVP will end up in the ranks of the UNP.
