Claymore Bombs & International
Multi-Religious Conferences for Peace
27-29th June 2007

From a news item which appeared in The Island of 26th June 2007 written
by Franklin R.Sathyapalan, we learn that there is a rather rush gathering
of multi-religious leaders who will meet at the BMICH on 29th June between
2.00-5.00p.m. in a bid "to pray for peace in Sri Lanka." Religious
affairs and military affairs are in general, not on the same wave length
and just as much as a military officer cannot give a sermon in Christianity,
Buddhism, Hinduism or Islam because that is not his speciality, he will
however give an excellent presentation if he were to be invited to talk
on war and strategies. Similarly, religious leaders(especially foreigners)
are not in a position to talk on devolution packages, constitutional
reforms, APRC or Politics in Sri Lanka because that is not the reason
why they have entered their different religious institutions but on
the other hand, permit any religious leader to give a sermon on his
own religious beliefs and institutions and for sure he will do an excellent
job! Today we read in the newspapers that the vehicle of Assistant Provincial
Commissioner-Kilinochchi was caught transporting special Claymore bombs
to Colombo-for peace?
It seems almost silly, to think that blood thirsty terrorists like
the LTTE will listen to religious leaders and accept peace! Why have
they been murdering innocent civilians, attacking government institutions,
non-Christian religious places of worship, hurting the sentiments of
Hindu Tamils who constitute the majority within the Tamil community,
murdering Hindu Kurukkals (at the same time claiming that they are the
sole representatives of Tamils in Sri Lanka)- if all they were waiting
for, was for an International Multi-religious forum " to pray for
peace in Sri Lanka?"
We must understand that these are all excuses used by foreign powers,
to enter this country and dictate terms to our GOSL under cover of religious
amity! With all due respects to the Director of the International Multi-Religious
Affairs, Japan Kyoichi Sugino who supposedly arrived on 26th June and
is walking into something he has absolutely no knowledge of- the terrorist
problem in Sri Lanka and the root of the problem. Unfortunately for
him, it is the pro-NGO institutions like the National Peace Council
chaired by Dr. Jehan Perera that is organizing this together with National
Conference for Religions For Peace (which is heavily anti-Buddhist)
with the Executive Director Kingsley Rodrigo who seem to be in the core
of this organizing committee. Lest people forget, Sri Lanka is a country
with a majority of Buddhists (70% approx.) it is highly questionable
as to why NPC and a group of non-Buddhists are organizing such a conference-
what is the hidden agenda? Suppose, they feel that if they use "
multi-religious" as the cover, things might just work out for the
pro-INGO/NGO and pro-Christian groups that are prowling and waiting
for a chance to try and hoodwink the unsuspecting participants at this
conference to be held at the BMICH on 28th June 2007. It is only after
all the nonsensical tomfoolery conducted at the BMICH, and meetings
with TULF Leader V.Anandasangari, TNA Leader R.Sampanthan, UNP Leader
Ranil Wickremasinghe and the Minister of Environment from JHU Champika
Ranawake, Minister of constitutional Affairs DEW Gunasekera,Minster
of Science and Technology and Chairman of the AAPRC Prof.Tissa Vitharana,
THAT Kyoichi Sugino is scheduled to meet our Mahanayakes of the Malwatte
and Asgiriya Chapter in Kandy- merely a "courtesy call to inform
them of what has happened-nothing more" ! The last on the list
of people happen to be-the two Mahanayakes in Kandy. Surely, this is
not the way to conduct a so called "International Multi-Religious"
function? Can anything else be more obvious about the true nature of
this conference than this? Buddhist Religious Heads of this country
are last on the list!!!
It would be extremely interesting to see how many Christian denominations
and their clergy will be present and the proportions of other religious
clergy against the Christians will be participating at the conference
at BMICH on the 29th of June? That will explain the untold agenda and
the ultimate objective. Other than Buddhist Clergy who are foolish enough
to be duped by Christian forces into believing that "multi-religious
" and "multi-racial" amity is what will bring about peace,
we can be quite sure that no truly worthwhile Buddhist Clergy will be
invited because, the organizers as well as those with vested interests,
fear to hear the truth!
Instead of attempting to hoodwink us, all that these dignitaries should
have done without meeting all those mentioned above, was to arrange
to go to the Wanni and meet Prabhakaran and S.P.Thamilselvam and tell
them "to stop the war and get down to negotiations!" It is
the LTTE terrorists who need to be told about peace-not anyone else.
Religious functions and religious dignitaries must limit themselves
to what they know best "without stepping into waters" of which
they are totally ignorant about -terrorism, war and devolution!
