Bombing Tiger Radio a ‘War Crime’ Says WHO?

© In Retrospect By Sarath Kumar For LankaWeb

Nov.27th 2007

Regarding the Press Release of Tuesday 27 November 2007 in Sri Lanka by a curiously sounding group calling themselves "REPORTERS WITHOUT BORDERS" a name being aped in vain lately by many who have no right to the privilege as there should be no such liberality given to any news reporting group who shoot their mouths with meaningless rhetoric which says AIR STRIKE ON REBEL RADIO STATION IS “WAR CRIME” they need to be cautioned as well as advised that they are making an illogical statement to the world as the following facts need to be pellucidated to them whoever they are!

Of course without much speculation or ado and needing no rocket science it needs to be pointed out to anyone who thinks to the contrary, that they obviously are Pro LTTE thereby terrorist supportive and hence their bellyaching over an issue which the Armed Forces have taken Affirmative Action and very rightly so to moot in the war against global terrorism!

The latest Sri Lankan Military air strike on the Voice of Tigers, the radio station of the Tamil Tiger rebels in the north of the country, was not a war crime by any definition and these so called 'Reporters Without Borders' need to be advised that alongside their lacking in borders or perimeters relative to interpretative cognizance, they also seem to be lacking in the definitive intelligence needed to distinguish between a Sovereign Nation and globally condemned terrorists who are menacing the Sovereignity of the Nation, in this case Sri Lanka by their unwelcome presence and their decades long campaign of horrendous criminal activities and the Government of Sri Lanka has every right to order the destruction of any broadcasting media which can be linked to them.

That staff members were killed in the bombardment by air force jets is of little consequence to the issue at hand and conversely may be applied to the tens of thousands of people both civilian and forces personnel as well as other official persons on duty who have lost their lives due to the mendacity of the LTTE so what are these reporters talking while either confounding their interpretations or deliberatelt attempting to mislead in making it sound like a War Crime?

It also need to be further publicised towards having a global impact that the "Voice of Tigers" is a propaganda radio operated by the LTTE rebels who are terrorists and any reference to the rules of war are inapplicable and irrelevant where military bombardment and bombing on the part of the Government of Sri Lanka has no obligatory requirement to be limited to strictly military targets, as such a broadcasting facility by a terrorist group broadcasting their terrorist propaganda is a terrorist target where the alluded to press freedoms are inapplicable as the greater liability of compromising the Nations's Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity in so doing takes precedence and priority. If as suggested the Government in Colombo uses the Geneva Conventions to condemn LTTE crimes which seems more speculation than reality it is not bound by any legality to do so when it bombs what is a terrorist installation unprotected by any conventions manned by criminals and operated on their own criminally motivated direction and that of their criminal leader unaligned with anything conventional.”

The air strike on Voice of Tigers, located near Kilinochchi which took place in the afternoon of Nov.27th should be a stark reminder that terrorism never pays and will be eradicated from the face of Sri lanka ere long despite the rhetoric of the LTTE and their suportives! The bombing was appropriately carried out as the station was providing coverage of the annual "War Heroes’ Day" ceremonies which is the LTTEs title for lamenting their own dead cadre quite forgetting the tumultuous mayhem they have caused by the destruction of tens of thousands of innocent civilian lives that have been killed through LTTE attrocities.

When Tamilnet further continues to brag about the LTTE and refers to 'regions they control' it has to be made very clear to those unaware of the real situation in Sri Lanka that there are little or no such regions under their control anymore as whatever they had annexed illegally prior to the advances of the Armed Forces are being rapidly relinquished being a terrorist outfit on the run striking randomly at Government targets in frustration as they have attempted in Colombo today in an attack on the office of Mr.Douglas Devananda a Government Minister who was unhurt!

The Sri Lankan Military has to be commended that the Air Force has taken charge in having destroyed the “clandestine Tiger terrorists radio station” in Kilinochchi where previously other air strikes in October 2006 caused serious damage to the station and this time the job has been done as part of the Military campaign to eliminate the LTTE terrorists.

Regarding the reference to another clandestine transmitter as suggested by Tamil Net if there is any credibility to it, needs to be investigated sought out and destroyed inasmuch as that of the Voice of Tigers was towards maintaining National Security.

It also has to be borne in mind that this attack is very similar to those carried out by other Sovereign Nations against terrorist targets and are perfectly legitimate in the War Against Global Terrorism spearheaded by the United States of America and followed closely by countries such as the Soviet Union, Israel, India, Pakistan, Turkey, the Philippines amongst others who have their own terrorist related problems and are well within their rights in doing so and in no way violating international law which has no proviso towards tolerating global terrorism.
