TWO CIVILIANS DIED AND NINE OTHERS INJURED IN A LTTE GRENADE ATTACK IN WELLAWATTE

Two civilians were killed and nine others were grievously injured when suspected Tamil Tigers exploded a grenade at a crowded bus halt at Wellawatte on the busy Galle Road , Saturday night , Police said.

Police said the hand grenade explosion occurred at 8 p.m. at the bus halt in front of the Arpico Show Rooms at Wellawatte.

The injured were rushed to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The explosion occurred as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has allegedly intensified their attacks on civilian targets during the last few days.

The attack came after their latest attack in a passenger compartment of a Colombo Panadura train killing nine passengers and injuring scores of others .

On the same day of the attack suspected terrorists of the LTTE exploded an electrict transformer at Grandpass in Colombo exactly one hour after the Wellawatte explosion. Police said there were no casualties in the Grandpass explosion.
