First Sinhala Buddhist School in Sri Lanka needs urgent help !Helplanka UK PRESS RELEASEHelplanka UK, a registered charity helping children in Sri Lanka for the last 3 years has been asked to assist in the repair and running of Sri Dhammasara Piyartatne Maha Vidyalaya Dodanduwa in the Southern Province not far from Galle. The charity is appealing to all Buddhist lay people in the UK to donate directly to Helplanka so we can provide educational assistance, teachers and also undertake urgent repairs to the school which is in disrepair. Founded in 1869, the school is a historically important establishment which was built under the patronage of Colonel Henry Steel Olcott. Currently the school has 191 pupils and 16 teachers but Helplanka would like to restore the school to its former glory with the help of UK donors and plans to visit the school in March and July 2008 with volunteers to teach English and start the process of renovation once funds are collected . Donations can be made direct to Helplanka by cheque or direct debit to Helplanka Cooperative Bank sort Code 089299 Account No : 65172889.
