SAARC'S FUTURE AND INDIAN IMPERIALISMBHOOMIPUTRAAfter 28 years any ordinary citizen has the right to question the achievements of SAARC. It has had no impact on the lives of ordinary people. How does one expect a group of countries to evolve policies to stabilise and develop when India the biggest country in the association has been through the years the cause of instability in the region. The Indian policy was well expressed by one of its leading young politicians whilst addressing parliament on the recent discussion on the American nuclear deal . He said that India should not be dictated to but India should be dictating to the wild enthusiasm of the Indian parliament. What India does not understand is that as much as India does not wish to be dictated to, other countries do not wish to be dictated to by India either. The sovereignty of all India's neighbours are blatantly abused by India. If political goonery and exploitation and abuse of the poor in India is the internal policy where 150 thousand poor farmers have committed suicide this year alone as they cannot repay the loans in spite of its recent economic surge abuse of the sovereignty and economic colonialism by force is its external policy. Sri lanka at this moment of time has seen the RAW subjugation of its sovereign rights by India. Having armed and trained the Tamil insurrection and destabilised Sri Lanka now claims to have a moral right to determine final solution and economically colonise the country. Sri Lanka is not the only country . Ask any citizen of India's neighbours, they mistrust India. IF SAARC IS TO SUCCEED THE INDIAN MINDSET HAS TO CHANGE FROM ONE OF IMPERIALISM TO ONE OF FRIENDSHIP AND RESPECT FOR ITS NEIGHBOURS. TAKE A LEAF FROM THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY AND INDIA SHOULD TREAT HER NEIGHBOURS THE SAMEWAY FRANCE TREATS LUXAMBORG.
