Does Arbour abhor the LTTE's crimes against humanity or simply adore it?
Sisira Pereira, PanaduraIt has been just weeks since Louis Arbour publicly stated that the UN may take action under international law against whoever who indulge in war crimes. She was swift to issue the strong statement just after the Sri Lankan government officially annulled the long-dead CFA. Even before the dust created by her unprecedented interest in the Si Lankan conflict could settle down, the barbaric chief of the LTTE, Prabakaran, decided to butcher busses full of innocent civilians and order his suicide squads to target civilians at busy markets and other public places in the same way he had been so used to during the past twenty five years. The carnage the LTTE left during the past few weeks, since Abours comments, have appalled everybody around the world that even the US publicly condemned the terrorist attacks while identifying the LTTE to be totally responsible for the crimes.
And, these crimes are not just isolated murders. They are calculated massacres in the highest order.
Alas!We hardly hear any public statement from the venerated Louis Arbour (or any of the UN officials for that matter) condemning the attacks or making a strong committed statement to the effect that the UN would now push to bring the world's most ruthless human rights violator, Prabakaran to justice.
What is wrong Arbour, does your seat get hot only when the legitimate Sri Lankan Defence Forces hit the LTTE terrorists and its Pol Potish leader Prabakaran?
Shame on you ex-judge! |
