ANOTHER GREAT SON OF SRI LANKA
MURDERED BY INHUMAN TERRORISTS.
PEOPLE OF MATARA MOURN THE SAD DEMISE OF THIS GREAT PATRIOT.

The blood thirsty inhuman terrorists have taken away the life of Minister
Jeyaraj Fernando Pulle, an illustrious son of Mother Lanka fondly adorned
by all communities and people of all walks of life. His premature death
deprived Sri Lanka a symbol of patriotism, a progressive politician,
a humble friend of downtrodden masses, a fierce fighter against inequality,
a true icon of the SLFP, a guardian of people’s rights, and a great
articulator against the terrorists and the reactionaries. Mr. Fernandupulle’s
loss is almost analogous to the great loss we suffered in the death
of Mr. Lakshman Kadiragamar. Both these statesmen rose over and above
all parochial boundaries and heroically stood against the known and
veiled enemies of Sri Lanka and sacrificed their precious life for the
sake of the nation. The murder of Mr. Fernandupulle should be condemned
vehemently and it underscores the need to intensify the assault on all
forms of terrorism and terrorists.
This heinous murder is an opener for the stupid clan who call for halting
the military operation against the terrorists and advocate negotiations.
The peace merchants and political opportunists may remain mum over this
brutal terrorist act which also killed the veteran marathon gold medalist
K.A Karunarathne, who was represented Sri Lanka at the Barcelona Olympics
in 1992, and the national athletic coach Lakshman de Alwis and 9 others.
More than 90 people are reported to have injured.
The timing of the murder of Minister Fernandupulle by the terrorist
outfit shows that it has been carried out with several objectives, which
include concealing the vandalizing of Madhu Shrine by the terrorists,
and Easten Province Election for which the slain Minister was leading
the electioneering in the Trincomalee District.
The terrorists with the connivance of Father Rayappu Joseph have hijacked
the Statue of Madhu known as “Our Lady of Madhu” to a place
called Thevayanpiddy in Vellankumam, near Kilinochchi. The terrorist
outfit was very much apprehensive of the acid-tongue Ministers capability
of launching an onslaught against this anti-Christian act of the terrorists
and the adverse effect it could create in the Christian arena.
The other reason being the Ministers involvement in the Eastern Province
Election and the disclosure he made in his last media interview with
the “Asian Tribune” that the despicable Norway was sponsoring
Rauf Hakeem in the Eastern Proince Election. He also informed in this
interview that Rauf Hakeem had a meeting with the Norwegian Ambassador
Tore Hathrem, and U.S.Ambassador Robert Blak at UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake’s
house at Pelawatte, Battaramulla, purportedly on the conduct of the
election..
In view of these facts the murder of the should be thoroughly investigated
to ascertain whether Norway and any other politician or organisations
who have close relationship with Norway could have helped and assisted
the terrorists in this heinous murder..
The terrorist Website TamilNet reporting about the murder of the Minister
had tried to mislead world opinion by mentioning that the Minister,
who was a close ally of President Mahinda Rajapakse, was responsible
for strengthening Sri Lanka’s ties with Iran. This is a deliberate
and despicable attempt to avert condemnation for the murder by the United
States and the western countries.
As the Chief Government Whip, Minister Fernando Pulle rendered an enormous
service countering baseless allegations against the government and the
security forces in and outside the Parliament. He counteracted Opposition
allegations with facts and figures and it was pleasant to seem him courageously
debate in the Parliament.
Minister Fernandu Pulle was one of the adroit and hardworking Ministers
who worked tirelessly for improving the infrastructure facilities of
the country. Continuing the construction of bridges, and roads all over
the island, especially in the rural areas initiated by the President
when he was Prime Minister and the Minister of Highways, Minister Fernando
Pulle diligently completed these work and initiated work on new roads
and bridges wherever it required. On his initiative Sri Lanka is to
have many flyovers to ease traffic congestion hampering Colombo and
its suburbs and he was responsible for placing Sri Lanka in the books
of world records by constructing the Peliyagoda Flyover within a shortest
period of time.
People of Matara mourn the sad demise of this great patriot. We remember
with sincere gratitude the keen interest shown by him personally overseeing
the construction of the new Matara Bridge and offering us only a few
months ago, one of the beautiful bridges in Sri Lanka, which has immensely
enriched the landscape of the Matara City.
