DECLARE WAR ON THE TERRORIST OUTFIT IMMEDIATELY AND SEEK FOREIGN MILITARY ASSISTANCE AS IT WAS DONE IN 1971

A.A.M.NIZAM MATARA.

The world’s ruthless terrorist outfit facing imminent extinction in the hands of our gallant security forces and hard-pressed with the elephantine task of somehow stopping the final phase of the military operation and saving their skins has intensified its indiscriminate cowardly attacks on innocent civilians. These inhuman blood thirsty terrorists with the collaboration of treacherous elements who may even prostitute their own mothers for pecuniary benefits and or political expediency have carried out two bomb blasts in Moratuwa and Polgolla murdering a number of innocent unarmed civilians and injuring hundreds. At the same time there are reports that some other bombs have been discovered and defused timely before the terrorists and the treacherous terrorist puppets were capable of exploding them causing further destruction. The prime objective of the inhuman terrorists and their immoral collaborators who had lost their hold in the Eastern Province and is fast becoming a vanishing spcies in the North is to generate communal violence and force international interference to stop the final operation in the North which should only be intensified immensely championed by mammoth mass support to eliminate this menace devastating our country for almost three decades.

Today’s twin blasts at Moratuwa and Polgolla had taken place within three days of another cowardly act at Wellawatte railway track. Among the dead in these beastly acts may include people or family members of those who blindly or for political reasons supported or inclined to believe the vicious propaganda against the war, or arguments floated to showcase the war as unwinnable, or political attempts being made to destabilize/topple the government on behalf of the terrorists and thus put an end to the North Operation. Such supporters and blind believers or their kith and kin may become potential victims in future blasts too, while even a hair of those who mislead them or instigate them to participate and shout slogans in baseless protests does not get moved as they never walk on the roads or commute by buses and trains, and only move about in super luxury vehicles guzzling petrol. How can a Sri Lankan even with an iota of patriotism in his blood could continue to support or allow these traitors to bleed this country further?

As the President has rightly and vigorously pointed out on many occasions Sri Lanka is not a country of the Rajapakses alone. Betraying this country to the terrorists or foreign stooges with the motive of harming Rajapakses or anyone in the Government for selfish reasons would only bury the several centuries of glorious history of this nation and it would make the country only a hellhole for the posterity of everyone.

Hence, the time has dawned for all masses of Sri Lanka to spun, reject and condemn these unpatriotic, selfish treacherous individuals who collaborate with the terrorists or prop up the terrorists, or attempts to implement alien agendas. The time has also dawned to unreservedly dedicate ourselves to serve the nation, assist the security forces in whatever form possible, and observe maximum vigilance in our neighbourhood and be partners in the war against the terrorist menace and get ourselves mobilized as a member of the mass unified Sri Lankan army determined to confront and eliminate the terrorists.

How pathetic it was to watch in the TV the grievance of the threewheel driver, a real patriot, who gave a chase to the terrorist who remotely activated the Wellawatte rail track bomb? Despite his chase of this terrorist for more than one km the terrorist managed to escape since no one had come to the help of the threewheel driver despite his shout for help in the tranquil morning hours. It is fortunate that security forces managed to apprehend this terrorist in Vavuniya while attempting to sneak into terrorist frontier and thereby even being able to discover a terrorist arms storehouse in Wellawatte through interrogation of this enemy.

As the terrorists have shown their determination to unleash intensified terror in the country and cause harm to life and property on a wide scale the government and the masses must boldly accept this challenge and steps should be taken firmly and immediately to defeat this challenge and intensify the destruction of terrorists in all fronts in the North disregarding whatever the pressure that may come from whatever the source.

In this regard it would be prudent if the government seriously consider taking the following steps immediately:

  • Ban the LTTE and prohibit individuals or organizations to have any direct or indirect relations with the banned outifit, and support, assist or espouse the cause or objectives of the terrorist outfit directly or indirectly.
  • Declare War on LTTE and empower the Security Forces with all powers that can be vested constitutionally under a war atmosphere.
  • Place the whole country on the war footing.
  • Prohibit all reporting on war and war related activities in the media and take all action that can be taken to restrict the misuse of this prohibition by the Websites. Such prohibitions are being effectively and successfully implemented by many countries in the Middle East.
  • Launch an effective propaganda war via joint TV channels with progress reports on the North operation, and programmes on espousing patriotism on a frequent basis.
  • Request foreign countries for military and other assistance to conduct this war as it was successfully done in 1971. (The current UNP leader cannot object to this measure as his mentor J.R.Jayawardene fully supported the action taken in 1971 in the capacity of the then UNP leader despite that operation was only against a group of misguided youth.)
  • Call upon all civilians in the terrorist occupied areas to move into areas controlled by Security Forces and make arrangements to temporarily shelter them suitably and feed them adequately. It is estimated that only around 350,000 persons are living in the North presently, including those in Government held Jaffna areas and the terrorist cadre.
  • Take effective and adequate measures to prevent terrorist leaders and the terrorists escaping to Southern India via sea routes, and supplies reaching to the terrorists from Southern India.
  • Stop feeding, clothing and provision of health care and other services to terrorists by the State, and restrict all supplies to terrorist occupied areas until the war is over as Nigeria successfully carried out such an operation to crush the Biafra uprising in the 1970s.
  • Use Constitutional powers to revoke all restrictions governing search operations in non-combat areas and carry out intensive search operations and apprehending of terrorist suspects and their supporters
  • Mobilize the already established Cilvil Defense Force to rake up all areas with the objective of finding hidden bombs, explosives etc. Volunteers may also be called for this purpose as it was done in 1971.
  • Allow only SLTB busses manned with two Civil Defense Force personnel to ply in Colombo and its suburbs and in the main cities, and ban passengers entering these buses with parcels/luggages/bags.
  • Also deploy Civil Defense Force and volunteer personnel to check incoming and outgoing passenger luggages at Main Railway Stations.

These are some of the points that came into my mind while writing this article. Our experienced and capable security establishment may advise the government on right and effective actions that are needed to be taken if the government politically resolves for such action needed urgently and immediately.

We hope with mass support the government will make a resolute effort to effectively crush this menace and make Sri Lanka a terrorist free nation.
