Another suicide bomb in Sri LankaAsoka WeerasingheOctober 7, 2008
The Editor (Letters) THE OTTAWA CITIZEN
Sir:
This latest suicide bombing by the ruthless terrorists, the Tamil Tigers, which is the 280th in my count, which killed Sri Lanka Armys retired Major General Janaka Perera, that also killed 27 others in the northern city of Anuradhapura, should be a good enough reason for the Liberal Party and the NDP to keep away from Sri Lankan politics during the present election hustings.
Both parties announced their Statement on Sri Lanka, for the benefit of the 100,000 Tamil voters in the Greater Toronto Area, baiting them to vote for them by criticizing the Sri Lankan Government on this separatist war, which it is doing what is expected of any democratically elected government to do, to safeguard the right-to-life of its citizens and guard its sovereign territory from being dissected into two, to create a separate Tamil, mono-ethnic, racist state Eelam, by these Tamil Tiger terrorists.
Lets keep our politics within the confinds of Canada. We have enough problems to tackle politically- economy, health, environment, child care, jobs for immigrants, recognizing education and work experience credentials of immigrants, rather than getting embroiled in politics of Sri Lanka, an island in the remote part of the Indian Ocean. Lets try to be sane in this silly political-times.
The Conservatives that banned the Tamil Tigers as a terrorist organization in 2006, is the only major party which has not felt, so far, that it was necessary to make a partisan announcement on a Sri Lankan internal affair, to win the substantial block of Tamil-Canadian votes, 100,000 of them. I doff my hat to them.
