COMMENTS BY EU FOREIGN COMMISSIONER

Sherlock & Watson in India

I refer to the article in the Internet about the statement made for the EU by their Commissioner for External Relations & European Neighborhood Policy, Benita Ferroro-Waldner, who has asked Lanka for "a substantive devolution offer" to solve the so-called Tamil issue.

If 'substantive power' is devolved to the 11+ Million Dalits (Untouchables) in Tamil Nadu, then Tamil Nadu would become their true Homeland. The Tamil Diaspora (including the ones in Sri Lanka and the rest of the world), then would have a true Homeland in Tamil Nadu and stop their terrorist and criminal activities in various countries to carve out a separate 'homeland' in Sri Lanka. In Malaysia the Tamils are starting similar activities as in Sri Lanka; in Fiji the immigration of Indians (mainly Tamil Dalits) has been banned.

Tamil Dalits are similarly active in Mauritius, Maldives, Madagasca etc. The modus operandi of some Dalits is to create grievances where there are none and then try to generate sympathy for themselves so that the international community would open their doors to them as refugees. They think if they keep repeating falsehoods long enough it will become the truth. However, most of the Hindu Tamils have been living amicably in Sri Lanka among the Sinhalese for hundreds of years.

Also, the Dalit need to convert to other religions causes imbalances and unrest in their host countries. The Dalits believe by crossing sea water and converting to other religions loses their low caste. The LTTE are mainly Dalits who have converted to Catholicism.

I have yet, to date, not found any Sri Lankan Tamils who have great devotion or love for Tamil Nadu. They do not go on pilgrimages to the shrines of TN or even visit their true homeland as tourists. If Tamils ever do go to TN, it is for trade or political purposes.

Why are issues of Dalits (Untouchables) in Tamil Nadu and their miseries not highlighted in the Sri Lanka Parliament ? Afterall, it the Dalit issues of Tamils in Tamil Nadu and Jaffna that has cost Lanka dearly.

The solution of the Dalit problem in Tamil Nadu will bring a lasting solution to Tamils of Lanka. At present, Tamils of Lanka enjoy the same rights as the other citizens of the land, which is more than rights enjoyed by Tamils of Tamil Nadu in India.
