UPFA won the Eastern Province ElectionThe Election Secretariat says the UPFA has secured majority of the EPC election. State television reported that the Sri Lanka's ruling party has won the election in the country's Eastern Province, . Results show the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance coalition winning 20 seats on the 37-member provincial council, while the United National Party captured 15 seats. Two smaller parties have won one seat each. UPFA won seven polling divisions out of 10 polling divisions of the province.UPFA received 52.2% of the votes, a total of 308886 votes against UNP total of 250732. The biggest loser is the JVP which could secure only 9390 votes, a mere 1.5% of the total votes.The eastern province has a mixed population with 42.9 Tamils and 31.6 Muslims while the Sinhalese who are the majority community in the county account for only 24.9 in the east.
