A Great Son and a True Patriot of Sri Lanka has Been Taken from us....The Assasination of Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulleby Devinda FernandoIt was a normal Sunday, I was returning from Bentota, a usual day of relaxation, It was an extremely eerie coincidence that I was explaining to a lady friend of mine, who was curious about my family, how Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle had helped my brother out of an extremely sticky situation many years back when he had been very young and foolish. If it were not for Jeyaraj my brother may to this day be languishing in a Jail cell for something quite innocent and harmless. I cannot explain the shock and sadness to check my mobile phone to see the messages announcing his tragic and untimely death at the hands of the LTTE. Not long ago, in January 2008, Minister D. M. Dassanayake's vehicle was hit by a targeted explosion on Rukmani Devi Junction (another eerie coincidence as Rukmani Devi is my great aunt) in Colombo that took his life as tragic as that was, that was not a hit meant for him, but for Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle. Fortune smiled on him that day he had decided to take an alternate route leaving the assassins confused and thus detonating the explosives mistakenly at Minister's Daassanayake's vehicle convoy. However, 3 months later fate did not smile on the Minister. During broad daylight, while attempting to spectate the runners of a Marathon during New Years Celebrations another explosion occurred. This time, Jeyaraj was not so lucky in fact the blast was deliberately targeted at him again and this time it succeeded snuffing out his life and that of 14 other innocent people who stood close to him. 7:41am Sunday Morning on April 6th, 2008 Jeyaraj Fernandopulle died instantly in a blast that dismembered his entire body and subsequently also took the lives of many who stood around him . Some of my friends say to me after his untimely death that he was a Head Strong minister, talking a lot, and throwing caution to the wind . and that this is somewhat his fault for not heeding the Security warning signs that the LTTE were looking to kill him because he was a Tamil who was outspoken about them. Well I say this: Good for you Jeyaraj. He was a shining example to ALL Sri Lankans that you cannot simply live in fear. If he was outspoken, heads strong, and if he lived his life without fear then good for him! I hope his death is an inspiration to the rest of we Sri Lankans that in the face of adversity we have brothers and sisters who will not go quietly into the night .. "Freedom is not Free", men like Jeyaraj and Laksman Kadirgamar and all those tens of Thousands of unnamed heros of our Armed forces who have laid down their lives and paid the Ultimate Sacrifice so that we can live the 'Normal" lives we do Here is a man who put communal politics aside and devoted his entire life to uniting, unifying and building Sri Lanka to what she is capable of and more .. A man of great vision and guts, but sadly his life was cut short by a bunch of vicious barbaric opportunists that sought to manipulate and prey off the most basic of human insecurities to further their politic agenda. My Question to the LTTE is this: Do you think this incident has made we Sri Lankans sympathize with you or your cause any more? NEVER! It has had the opposite effect. Anyone who so much as utters a word of support for these Bloody Minded Terrorists that carry the Flag of the LTTE are ALL ENEMIES OF MOTHER LANKA. Whether they carry a gun, or carry a pen, or speak eloquently with a suit and tie in parliament deserve no pity from us. As far as I'm concerned they are all Enemies of the State should be rounded up and dealt with accordingly. If you throw you your hat in with the LTTE you deserve nothing but the brunt of the very worst of the anger of the people of Sri Lanka. So I say to all you Scumbags, all those who choose to engage in Divisive Communalistic Politics, and those who play buddy to terrorists to further your own Communalist agendas, and to who sit on the fence crying foul against the current government who is trying to put an end to this conflict: YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. I will Quote the late Bill Hicks who is a great inspiration in my life: "We live in a world where Brilliant Men are murdered and Mediocre Hacks continue to thrive" You people will never be half the man Jeyaraj was. A man of greatness who devoted his life to making Sri Lanka a better place for ALL SRI LANKANS over all the Communalist Politics and race based agendas that mediocre Hack politicians preach. For all you separatists who think that we as Sri Lankans will simply sit back and allow you to murder our favorite sons, (and I'm speaking of Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, and any one else who considers themselves Sri Lankan) then you are sadly mistaken .SADLY MISTAKEN! The time for talk is over. THIS IS A FIGHT TO THE DEATH. We will be victorious as our resolve cannot be shaken. Kill our people
and we will return the favor TENFOLD unto you! Attack our women and
children in cowardice and you will face the full wrath of the SL Armed
forces. You will witness no mercy, no pity, no compassion from us. You
are about to witness the consequences of playing us for the fool and
abusing our good will for so many years. We will live in peace from here onwards, our children will sleep at
night without fear from those who try to murder us. Our citizens shall
walk about freely on our soil, without fear, without hesitation or pause,
and without the specter of terrorism over our head. Our people shall
prosper and move on as a nation without those trying to rob us of our
Self-Determination. "This year Death comes to the Vanni's Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam,
