Were there no coolies available to clean the Thalladi Catholic Church?Ramanie de Zoysa
It is an appalling travesty of justice that a group of our heroic sons of the soil employed by the Sri Lanka Army have been sent to CLEAN the Thalladi St. Sebastian Catholic Church premises in Mannar thereby allowing to be killed or maimed by LTTE fire. Six young soldiers have died and ten more have been injured through this fiasco. The Army Commander Sarath de Fonseka must investigate this atrocious decision to deploy valuable Army human resources in muck removal duties and bring the wrong decision makers to book.
Our soldiers are our countrys future- the value of a finger of one soldier is more than an entire parish full of priests who have done nothing so far but support the Tamil terrorists overtly and covertly. Even if the Catholic priests have been behaving like angels why, oh why, does the Sri Lanka Army see fit to send these innocent brave youth to perform menial duties for all and sundry?
Winning the Tamil hearts and minds is one thing- but do we need to do send our soldiers to do menial jobs for the Tamil church men to win these hearts and minds. Going by the track record of these Tamil priests their hearts and minds must be so corrupt that there is no earthly reason why any sane person would want to win them!
A more pertinent and serious question is that these soldiers may have walked into a trap set by the LTTE with the connivance of the Catholic Church. I implore the Army Commander to arrest all the priests Rev. Fr. Thevaraja, Rev. Fr. Arunraj, Rev. Fr. Nevin, Rev. Fr. Kulas and Rev. Bro.Laxstent who visited the church on Monday and made this request from the Army, immediately for questioning- and to hell with the international community! These priests as individuals have a case to answer and the fact that they wear a robe should not exempt them from law, order and justice.
The parents of these youngsters must have answers and the Sri Lanka Army is totally responsible for this dreadful but inevitable outcome arising from an extremely stupid decision made by the its hierarchy. |
