DEVOLUTION-MONGERS AND PLAINCLOTH EELAMISTS ATTEMPT TO REVIVE FAILED EELAM

A.A.M.NIZAM MATARA.

When the annihilation of the terrorists is in the doorsill and the masses of all ethnicity are longing for a speedy end to the terrorist menace that immensely hampered and ruined their lives for the last three decades despicable multifarious forces are once again active in presenting various trivial and awkward issues to create disunity in the society. At a time the whole country should unite as a single force and extend wholehearted support to the gallant forces admirably marching forward shattering the enemy’s eelam dream, these vicious elements, some who even ridiculed the wisdom of military option, are attempting either to make a last minute effort to thwart the liberation operation or pave the way to achieve the failed eelam goal on the sly. The worst among these vicious elements are the devolution-mongers whose sole objective is to deceive the masses and lay the foundation for reviving the failed eelam goal through constitutional means. Patriotic masses should strongly oppose the heinous attempts of these devolution-mongers to nullify the great sacrifices and victories of our security forces.

Sri Lanka’s prime objective at the present juncture, as the government has rightly and prudently decided and unreservedly committed to, is Liberation of the North and eliminating the terrorist menace permanently. This policy has proved correct and the days are not far that remnants of the so-called “ruthless” ”invincible” ”unwinnable” ”militarily supreme” terrorists would be fleeing for their life at the mere sight of our gallant security forces, like chicken fleeing the sight of a mongoose. Lack of new recruits has already forced the terrorist leadership to forcibly deploy innocent civilians from tender age to old age, including using them as cannon fodder and auxiliary forces in order to get their own skin saved.

Despite many hardships the government’s liberation effort is wholeheartedly supported by the masses of all ethnicity throughout the country, as salvage for all the masses rest only in the total extermination of the terrorists who ruined this nation for three decades primarily due to lack of a determined security establishment backed by a strong unshakable political command. The menace needlessly continued due to the folly and weakness of the previous rulers who allowed external factors to interfere, dictate and impose remedies devoid of ground realities.

It is common that when a country is at war or under aggression it gives prime importance to win the war or defeat the aggression and focus all its efforts to prevent all factors, external or internal, that may hinder, divert, dilute or affect its strategy. In a country infested with hordes of treacherous individuals waiting for the slightest opportunity to betray the nation and even gleefully allow foreign powers to dictate terms and interfere in the governance, the President’s decision on the 13th Amendment and establishing close ties with many of our neighbours can be considered as judicious strategies adopted to prevent unwanted external and internal interferences in the operation for annihilation of terrorists.

An amendment to the constitution should be made by either through a referendum of the people or by a two thirds majority of the Parliament. On the contrary the 13th Amendment was forcibly imposed under a most despicable manner, against all civilized norms, with the then President holding the forcibly obtained resignation of the Parliamentarians and forcing them to vote for the amendment and the country being placed under curfew. The system forced by India of linguistic or ethnic based units of administration is not only unsuitable to ground situations in Sri Lanka but also has been a total failure in India itself.

The linguistic or ethnic based States in India which started with 14 at the inception has almost doubled and there are 28 States at present. There is every possibility that India will be forced to bisect many of the present States for the sake of peace and harmony. Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Tripura, and Mizoram are some of the States threatened with potential splits. Also there are perennial inter-State disputes related to land, sharing water resources and other issues. There are periodical riots in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka States on sharing Dam Water, River Water, land disputes and cross border transport. Recent shootout and riots in Kashmir valley also another such instance.

Rather than extending wholehearted support to the admirable liberation of North Operation being launched by the security forces the devolution-mongers polluted with archaic and obsolete Marxist ideology of self-determination, self-rule, and other utopian concepts have launched a new agitation to demand speedy implementation of the clauses in the 13th Amendment. Their sudden exigency on this issue which has not even being demanded by the proposed end-users show that they are in a despicable game plan to strengthen the unarmed eelamists (plaincloth eelamists) to achieve their eelam goal through forced constitutional means.

Liberation of the whole of North and defeating the terrorist outfit by our gallant security forces is now quite apparent as rising of the sun from the East and dawn of the day after the night. The country will be one nation very soon. The immediate task of the government in the free nation should be to repeal the obnoxious legislations forced on us externally and for political expediency. Two such obnoxious legislations are the Provincial Councils which has become a white elephant draining the country’s financial resources and the other is the Proportional Representation System whch pave the way for only very rich and unwanted elements to get elected to our Parliament and other legislative bodies.

Provincial Councils were forced on us to create an ethnic based Provincial Council. Having ethnic based councils will portend a very dangerous future for Sri Lanka under the context of Sri Lanka’s demographic composition in various parts of the country. There is all the danger of racists such as Hakeem and his cronies demanding ethnic councils for them to hold sway, groups in the upcountry demanding separate councils for their domination, and international agents such as Mano Ganeshan trying to get separate councils covering Colombo areas. Continuation of the Provincial Council System will only divide the country into ethnic based bits and pieces and will never pave the way for national unity and ethnic harmony, and the possibility of having a common Sri Lankan identity.

The present Provincial Councis itself is a great hindrance to the ordinary masses. For instance, a person from Tissamahara is forced to travel all the way to Galle to get things done through the Southern Provincial Council and similarly a person from Pottuvil or Ampara has to travel all the way to Trincomalee to get his requirements fulfilled through the Eastern Provincial Council.

There should be no difference among the Sri Lankans as a Southerner, Northerner, Easterner, Hill Countryer or a Westerner, and Sri Lankans should be able to travel to and live in any part of the country without any interference. Decentralisation to District Units and empowering the masses as equals based on the proposal submitted by the SLFP to the APRC is the best and viable solution to erase ethnic based enmity among the masses and build a single Sri Lankan identity.\
