of parliamentarians of the rebel group of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna
(JVP) that it is appropriate for them to work closely with the countrys
President Mahinda Rajapaksa to eliminate terrorism from the country.
It is opportune for you to secure a ministerial portfolio and
serve for the well being of the people, at a time when the President
is engaged in the task of eliminating terrorism and simultaneously developing
the country, said the most Venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala
, Mahanayaka Thero of the Malwatte Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya
who wields control of the largest number of temples in this majority
Buddhist majority country addressing the leader of the delegation ,
parliamentraian Wimal Weerawansa in front of television cameras when
the group of Members of Parliament met him at his official residence
in Kandy. Weerawansa was accompanied by ten rebel parliamentarians of the Janata
Vimukti Peramuna, which is showing signs of a major break up at the
parliamentary level . He has been working as the JVP Parliamentary groups
leader and the partys Information Secretary and a politburo member
of the party . Parliamentarians Piyasiri Wijenayake, M. Muzammil, Deepal Gunasekera,
Achala Jagoda, Samansiri Herath, Priyankara Weerakumara Dissanayake,
Ratna Udaya Shantha, Nimal Premawansa Jayasinghe and Jayantha Samaraweera
were accompanied with him on this occasion. Weerawansa told reporters at Malwatte Mahanayaka Theros premises
after the meeting that the rebel groups first ever trip after
deciding to work as a group was to visit and worship The Temple of the
Tooth in the morning indicating to which way the group was moving. The
group leader of the Marxist Party said, they were ready to do things
embracing the traditions and culture of the country. During the meeting with the Maha nayaka Thero of Malwatte, Wimal Weerawansa
said in response , that he made untiring efforts to sort out the partys
internal dispute amicably. However, he pointed out that he had to take
a challenging critical decision on behalf of the country and the people,
as his efforts to sort out the dispute did not succeed. They hoped to
get the JVP on the right track and serve the motherland by throwing
the handful, which conspired to evict them. If not, they were determined
to unveil a new political path, the rebel leader said. |
