LTTE LOSES COMMANDER BALRAJ AT A CRUCIAL TIME OF WARBy Walter JayawardhanaA senior commander of the Liberation Tiges of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) conventional
fighting forces, Balraj died of a massive heart attack , the Tamil Tiger
headquarters in Wanni announced. Balraj , the first commander of the Charles Anthony Brigade and planner
of such past LTTE victories like Kankasenturai battle , died at a crucial
time when his services were most needed and in many areas the Tamil
Tigers are fast losing ground , Tamil souces said. Shocked by the commanders sudden demise LTTE Supremo Velupillai
Prabhakaran has announced three days of mourning in Mulaithivu and Kilinochchi
where a tottering outfit is still doing its best to keep its Tiger flag
flying the same sources said. Sources said the celebrated Tamil commanders death came at 2.00
p.m. Tuesday bringing ominous signs for the already declining power
of the Tamil Tigers. Apparently, they said , he died of a broken heart. .. Balraj has commanded the Charles Antony Brigade between 1991-1993
and between 1995-1997. He was an expert on different forms of
warfare, including psychological operations, and deployed different
tactics during the planning and the conduct of the operations,
the LTTE said in praise of its commander. Balraj more recently was engaged at Weli Oya and Mannar war fronts
where the Tigers have taken many defeats. |
