Mano Ganesan - a rabid racist coddled by the US, and the International media, is a danger for National Unity.By Charles.S.PereraMano Ganesan is a communalist, and a racist to the very core with an almost genetically infused hatred towards the Sinhala. This is an ideal type of political figure that would be coddled and utilized by the USA and the International Community. Because he is a divisive element, that could break up nations and communities, like a cancer that would spread if body parts are not surgically removed. He hits at every thing that has the slighted relation to the Sinhala Community. Sri Lanka is at a historical crossroad, and we need patriots, non-partisan politicians, who will unite the communities distanced by various political disadvantages and neglect, not rabid racists who distance the communities further away from each other. Lot of stones are being thrown at Sri Lanka, its Government and its President. No body seems to be offering flowers. But Sri Lanka is to-day, after 60 years of independence a forward looking nation among the developing countries. It is beginning to harvest from the seeds of national awakening sown by SWRD Bandaranayaike, Sirimavo Bandaranayaike,Philippe Gunawardhana, NM Perera, Colvin Rde Silva and the rest. Sri Lanka has, in a very short time since Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse came in to power, made tremendous progress in nation building, despite an on going military action against terrorism. This would be seen only if one sheds one's veil of prejudice, and selfish political aggrandisement. There is also reason to be happy, that the important political parties are not mean in their yearn for national Unity. Even UNP with its harsh words against the government and the President, are not communal in their out look. So are the SLFP, JVP, JHU,and UPFA. They have a healthy political outlook without wanting to jeopardize the National Unity. They are not racists, though they are all against terrorists. But the racial element, and divisive politics come not so much from the Muslim Parties, but mostly from the Tamil politicians, writers.and journalists.
US State Departmen, Ambassador Blake, UE and the International Community should take note of the racial trend of the Tamil politicians which aggravates the ethnic problem. It is the political elements of this nature that make terrorists.
In this situation Mano Ganesan is a dangerous politician. He sows seeds of hostility, and hatred. His whole political life is being built on his hatred towards the Sinhala, and he makes a sentimental issue of it to attract the Tamil voters towards him, pretending to be the man who speaks loud, what others silently keep to themselves. In England there was an extreme right wing politician. He was called Enoch Powell. People allowed him to talk, because he was good to listen to, but later on he became a nuisance and now he is not even talked about. In France too there is an extreme right wing politician called Marie Le Pen. He is against emigration. At one point he became popular enough to get the second place in Presidential elections defeating the Socialist candidate. But now he has lost his importance, having only an entertainment value in political debates. Mano Ganesan is out to capture Tamil votes. But the Tamil people will
see through him and see his emptiness. Tamil people as much as the Sinhala
have things in common. It is like an old traditional marriage, we cannot
live without each other. Our problems could be settled among our selves.
For that we do not need to call each other names. Everything could be
settled in peace and cordiality. People like Mano Ganesan only poisons
the atmosphere. It is time that he looks at problems like a real politician,
not like a market place magician. |
