Basil invites SLMC to contest
together in East.
THE MUSLIM VOTERS OF THE EASTERN PROVINCE
SHOULD SUPPORT IT IF THE HE. MAHINDA RAJAPAKSA GOVERNMENT GOVERNMENT

On behalf of the Muslims of the Trincomalee District..
Hon. Rauf Hakeem should accept this invitation of Hon. Basil Rajapaksa
and join hands with the Government to contest the PC elections.But the
SLMC should have a clear cut deal in making the future of Governance
of the Eastern Province truly representative of the "PEOPLES WILL"
and the "RESPECT" of the "RULE OF LAW". The center
or the Executive Powers of the President should NOT hinder the "move
forward as needed by the will of the people after the PC elections.
This coalition should assure to the nation that a bridge of political
communication will be build with the LTTE through this arrangements
and the the LTTE should be given an opportunity to "TASTE PEACE".
If the former UNP and SLFP governments and the then Security Forces
can forgive and forget the militancy and atrocities of the JVP and the
DJV, then the SLMC should use this opportunity to help the MR Government
and Hon. Basil Rajapaksa to give that same opportunity to the LTTE too.
As Muslims having indulged in local and national politics as SLMCers
at the grassroots level, the Muslims believed that the SLMC should "go
it alone" at the PC elections, but as a community who believe in
PEACE and NONVIOLENCE and hailing from the East, the Muslims (Trincomalee),
see
the reality that the SLMC joining the Government to contest the PC elections
in the East can be a move forward for Democracy and PEACE. Now that
International Peace facilitations and negotiations have failed, lets
start to look to an indigenous solution of sharing power through the
PC system.
The TVMP should not be greedy at this moment, to sabotage any peaceful
political moves by this arrangements and attempt to block the intentions
of the government.Thy should contest on their own where ever they can.
The LTTE on the other hand will definitely wish to have control of
the North, so why not allow an Provincial Elections in the North and
give an opportunity for the LTTE Political wing to contest that elections
soon.The EPDP should be considerate when it so happens in the North.
The government of MR should not repeat history of the colonial masters
- the "divide and rule" policy. The MR government should not
divide the Tamils in the North and North Eastern provinces by political
manipulations.
The MR government should be honest in it's endeavours to forge PEACE
in Sri Lanka. Many believe fully that the MR government is HONEST.The
Tamils should be allowed to be what they are in the North and North
East. It should be the same to the Muslims and the Sinhalese in the
North Eastern Province. A PEACEFUL political environment should be created
through the PC elections. The Hon. Rauf Hakeem has already made a public
statement that the SLMC will not join any group where Hon. Mangala Samaraweera
is involved.
It is an indirect "metaphor" that there cannot be a possibility
for the SLMC to join any UNP coalition that may contest the Eastern
province PC elections.
All SLFP victories of the past in the Eastern province had been made
possible by the supportive strength of the SLMC votes. The SLMC has
always been a good partner to the SLFP, until recently when certain
differences in "principles of governance" arose. Many individuals
can come and go in the SLFP circles to engage in disruptive politics
for personal gains, but the SLMC will stay as the "representative
brokerage national party" of the Muslims and specially that of
the North Eastern and Eastern Provinces. The claim of the SLMC that
the Chief Minister post in the event the SLMC accepts the invitation
extended by Hon. Basil Rajapaksa to join the government to contest the
PC elections is a reasonable and logic request. The Muslim voters of
the Eastern province should support it if HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa and
his government will be honourable.
Lets forget and forgive and embrace all with love and compassion in
"GOVERNANCE" and "POLITICAL ENGAGEMENTS".Vengeance
and hatred between ethic communities destroys nations, not violence
and conflicts.
