Muslims are not immatured

by Hameed Ibralebbe Abdul

Dear Thiru

I feel sorry for you and some of the Tamil colleagues who cannot understand the realities of what goes on in the East. Why should you jump into the conclusion that Muslims have no right to seek Chief Minister nomination. As for me I wouldn't care whether a Tamil, Mulsim or Sinhala be appointed as Chief Minister as long as he/she is a good candidate to hold this important post. But, your argument does not hold water. Lets discuss your argument one by one:

You say the Tamils were oppressed by fascism of the LTTE and the Government military machine therefore, a Tamil should be given the CM post. I like to highlight that nearly 100,000 Tamil speaking Muslims were unjustly evicted from homes and are continuing to live Puttalam and other areas in camps. Thousands of acres of lands owned by Muslims are in LTTE and Government/Pillayan controlled areas which cannot be cultivated for obviously reasons known to all. Aren't the Muslims suffering because of this war, which they don't want at the first place. Is it a crime not to support the war? Should the Muslims be victimised for this? Ofcourse, Muslims did not die in the jungles in thousands but they have been and are continuing to suffer due to this conflict. Taking part in the war should not be the criteria for the selection of CM.

The East is almost equally represented by all communities. What is wrong in a Muslim becoming a CM for this region? You know very well that North is ruled by Emperor Prabaharan. No Muslim is allowed to work any where in North. They are not even allowed to visit their homes where their ancestors have been living for generations. South is ruled by Sinhalaese and the North by Tamils. Why can't the the two communities be generous enough and provide an opportunity for a Muslim to be nominated for this district? Is it too much to ask? All what Hisbullah requested the President is to fulfill his promise he made before the election to appoint him as CM. There is absolutely nothing wrong in this and no one needs to get upset about this.

Your argument that when Tamils and Sinhalese are killing each other Muslims are watching in silence is hilarious. You need to go into the history book to learn how many Muslims have scarified their lives for supporting the Tamil cause. Finally, all what they got return was a stab in the back by the so called saviour of the Tamils. Muslims always wanted devolution of powers and recognition of the Rights of the minority, that includes Tamils and Muslims. What did the Tamils do for supporting the Tamils for their just cause, destroy their homes and forcibly evict them - ethnic cleansing. What's wrong in Muslims asking for their Rights when others want to take full control of the affairs of the Muslims. Tamils are seeking for their Right to rule from the majority community. But, when it comes sharing with Muslims it becomes a different story. How can you justify this? Are you expecting the Muslims to take up arms to get their Right.

Selection of candidate for CM in my opinion should be on the bais of capacity. Lets compare the two candidates who were seeking the nominations. Pillayan has not even passed the O level. He joined the LTTE at the age of 15. All what he knows is the jungle life and recruiting children for the movement. Hisbullah on the other hand has a degree from a recognised university, has held Ministerial posts and was the Chairman of Water Board. He has ample experience in politics and management. How would you compare these candidates for the CM post?.

I would like the Tamils to look at the appointment of the CM objectively. Pillayan is not appointed by the Government for the love of Tamils, but with the longer term plan of the interested parties. They are working on a Master plan with Pillayan as a pawn. This is well known to Tamils. The Tamils struggled for a just cause - through wrong means. But with the appointment of Pillayan they will lose everything they fought for. That is why majority of the Tamils in Batticaloa voted for UNP with full knowledge that a Tamil will not be appointed as CM if UNP win. Smapanthan MP is not a fool to support the UNP. He is far sighted to understand the under currents.

Hope the above facts will throw light on this subject.
