Let's carry on the good fight
regardless

Dear Editor,
Every age and place brings forth the creators of myths. Creating myths
is relatively easy for all one needs is a somewhat creative or distorted
imagination on the one hand and a total disregard for the truth and
the facts at hand. So it is that the myth about the invincibility of
the terrorist LTTE was created, no doubt by the terrorists themselves
to begin with and later given "credence" by those who stood
to gain by it in different ways.
As there are myths, so there are the mythbusters. It is in the natural
order of things that nothing is permanent, and we have seen that, ad
nauseam, in human history. Mahinda Rajapakse, has stood up for all peace
and democracy loving Sri Lankans,
and others who know what true democracy means by carrying the fight
to the terrorists and is engaged in dismembering the old myth. Well,
now that that ghost is being laid to rest, what do the creators of the
myth and their cohorts do? Do they accept the fact that they were wrong
in the first place? Don't hold your breath, for they won't. What they
will do is look for other myths which will carry their cause. What better
tactic could they use than than create a new image for the terrorists:
the injured innocents. Cry halt to the bad treatment being meted out
to: who else but the most ruthless terrorist group ever?
I endorse everything that right-thinking people are writing about the
deliberate misrepresentations of facts by the Shermans and the Arbours,
some of the Britsh and some of the Norwegians and others of their ilk-who
try to distort the facts and empathize with terrorism in its worst form
while imaging themselves as people who stand for democracy and freedom.
Such people with vested interests, scanty knowledge of the reality,
and notions of one kind of justice for 'us' and another for 'them' will
never change their tune. They will continue to offer patronage to the
terrorists because, and only because they cannot view things rationally,
justly or realistically. The sad truth is that there are touts for different
kinds of democracy, and different kinds of freedom. Hitler had his supporters.
So had Nero and Caligula, Stalin, Herod, Pol Pot and Idi Amin.
But take heart. We simple folks stand for the only kind of freedom and
democracy-the rational kind, the kinmd that is akin to the truth the
little kid had to cry out to the Emperor who imagined he was dressed
in the best: "Hey, you're naked." And that is the truth that
will finally prevail.
So let's carry on the good fight regardless.
