Why Karuna Needs To Be Redeemed From The British Authorities And Fast!©In Retrospect By Sarath Kumara For LankaWebJan27th 2008 As the Nishshanka submission points out, despite the nature of Karuna's
statement to the British authorities sounding garbled and inconclusive
the greater implication of what the man has done for the Nation of Sri
Lanka has to be recognised without compromise and only fair that the
Sri Lankan authorities attempt to make ammends for his inadequacies
and bail him out of his predicament on the basis that Karuna is a Sri
Lanka Nation friendly individual and perhaps a future leader of the
Tamil Community possessed of saner and more rational faculties than
his terrorist opposit number Prabhakaran. There can however be no justification for the Sri Lankan Defense Ministry
if it has assisted Karuna in going to the UK under a falsified Diplomatic
passport and the matter needs to be investigated to the fullest where
more often than not individualistic bureaucratic bungling ends up being
the culpable source with no direct links to the highest level of Government
while it is also understandable that steps taken by the Government if
it was to befriend an ally who has been invaluable in the fight against
Prabhakaran and his criminals towards protecting him from their efforts
to eliminate him despite the wrong modus operandi has a case for argument
and of course restitution. It would be a travesty of real justice if Sri Lanka turns a blind eye
to what may be a miscarriage of justice by the British authorities in
incarcerating Karuna in reality deserving Sri Lanka Folk Hero status
with no attempt to redeem him on the part of the Sri Lankan authorities
while he could also be targetted by the LTTE predators running around
scot free in the UK in a worst case scenario. |
