Vaiko In Britain, Back To Begging And BootlickingJanaka YagiralaNovember 25th 1818 was the day the great hero Keppitipola Disawe was executed by the (ugly) British for fighting for our nation. On November 26th 2008 (exactly 190 years and a day later) something magical happens, Vaiko (an ardent puffed up supporter of the LTTE) runs back to the British!
Indeed it is something that all patriots can laugh about for days to come, to see a humble servant run back to the colonial master and ask the historic injustice be corrected by granting independence to mythical Tamil Eelam.
First of all, there is nothing Britain can do today, much like the old lady who keeps British throne warm. Today it is British labourers who cross the Irish Sea in search of odd jobs in Ireland (a former British colony), much like Portugal which earns a living by providing casual labourers to the rest of Europe. It is in fact people who value colonial antiquities who help ailing Britain linger on.
A person living in Britain would not even know about the British Computer Society (the infamous BCS) but the queue in Colombo to get BCS qualifications after donating a hefty sum helps the ailing Suddha live for another day. The same can be said about many more London based qualifications (again purchased for a hefty sum) from music, management to accountancy valued by colonial dinosaurs. In fact, once the Brent Oilfield dries up, Britain would be practically broke.
Second, Vaiko made a mistake by asking Britain to correct a historic injustice. If Britain were to undo historic injustices, it need not go far. It can start off by granting Northern Ireland back to Ireland, next Scotland and Wales can follow with independence. It can consider giving Gibraltar back to Spain. Had the Britain corrected historic injustices to the Native Americans, Australian Aborigines, Maoris of New Zealand and the people of Africa by paying compensation, no doubt Britain would simply go bankrupt.
The same can be said about those massacred in Sri Lanka during the 1818 and 1848 revolts, the victims of the Mau Mau uprising and infamous Biafra. All massacres by courtesy of the current champions of human rights (and hosts of Amnesty International).
However, there is one person who may take all of this seriously, that is our permanent fixture opposition leader who seemed awfully troubled to see an inmate of a British prison (Karuna Amman) being made an MP.
Let us just hope that Vaiko makes the best of his visit to Britain, which will not be complete without a visit to Madam Tussauds wax museum, Stonehenge and a nice fiery speech at Hyde Park. He may also consider a part time job as a shoe shiner at Buckingham Palace to cover the cost of his airfare.
Patriots of our nation however can be happy once again. After all had
Vaiko had an iota of confidence that the LTTE could achieve the pipe
dream of mythical Tamil Eelam militarily, he would not have to go back
to the old game of begging and bootlicking.
