SUSPECTED PRO-LTTE VANDALS ATTACK SRI SADDHATISSA INTERNATIONAL BUDDHIST TEMPLE IN LONDON

A leading Buddhist temple in the Metropolitan London has been vandalized in the wee hours of, Friday September 26, by suspected Tamil Tiger terrorist sympathizers in the area, the abbot of the temple said.

“ I suspect my temple has been vandalized by pro-LTTE elements in the area” said Venerable Galayaye Piyadassi , Abbot of the Sri Sadhdhatissa International Buddhist Centre in Kingsbury, London..

“The temple was visited by President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka last Saturday and this is suspected to be related to his visit, temple sources said. President Rajapaksa’s government is engaged in a fierce war with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to rid the country of the terrorist movement and its separatist campaign.. There are nearly 100,000 Sri Lankan Tamils living in the metropolitan London who wield some political power. Gangs related to the terrorist group are allegedly operating in the Kingsbury area .

The vandals entered the Buddhist temple premises at 1.30 in the morning , Friday, and smashed up many window panes on the downstairs of the buildings numbered 309 and 311 , and wind screens of the temple car and a hired minibus, by using rods, said an eyewitness to the incident.

When a resident Buddhist monk , one the 13 monks , living at the premises was trying to fall asleep his attention was drawn by the cracking of the glass. When he looked through his upstairs room window he saw two Sri Lankan looking men attacking glass from left and right sides of the building. When he saw one of the men hitting the windscreen of the temple car he started screaming for help said Venerable Saman Eliye Piyadassi., a Buddhist monk He said when he started screaming the vandals fled.
