Patriotism Must Override Terrorism As The JVP and The JHU Demand, With No Compromises! In the current poitical climate within Sri Lanka, there seems to be some discrepancies about the classification of the terms terrorists and terrorism. There appears to be two definitions towards the interpretation of the terms, one which favours extending concessions to terrorists such as those of the LTTE,whom the President of Sri Lanka sees fit to be involved in the Joint Mechanism. The other somewhat more general to identify and proscribe international terrorists associated with acts of terror against humanity from an international perspective, so has our esteemed President encountered some confusion towards the definitions of terrorists and terrorism? Just a few days ago, the President of the United States whilst welcoming the new Sri Lankan Ambassador to Washington made significant references commending Sri Lanka's anti -terrorist effort. This was indeed an endorsement of the continuation by Sri Lanka of the stance the Global Community has taken against terrorism, but curiously in Sri Lanka today, there are terrorists running about scot free and making demands of the Government towards recognition. They are certainly not entitled to, if measured by the George W. Bush yardstick, amongst significant others. Perhaps, the President of Sri Lanka should re-think her strategies before committing herself to a decision which may provide great leeway for the terrorists in Sri Lanka the LTTE towards their own agenda. To further compound the confusion, former US president Bill Clinton as an emissary of Tsunami Aid Distribution has made a few indiscreet remarks, not only controversial, but also contentious from a National Security stand point. It would be in accordance to negotiate with the terrorists and include them in the Joint Tsunami Mechanism. Bearing in mind that these are unrelenting fully armed terrorists who often threaten a return to aggression, while also carrying out their ceasefire violations surreptitiously with scant respect to the Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity of Sri Lanka relative to the signed accords. It seems somewhat baffling that neither the Status Quo in Sri Lanka nor certain elements of the American hierarchy such as the Clinton rationale seems to align their sights to the stark reality that these are terrorists whom they are dealing with and despite the good intentions of all concerned to appease them in a fervent hope that they will capitulate to the needs of Sri Lanka per se, it is indeed a huge gamble! In the simplest of terms the idealogy could easily backfire on the Government and hence the Nation of Sri Lanka without more tangible proof that the LTTE are willing to denounce their terrorist identity and respect Sri Lanka's Sovereignity. Something their spokesperson S P Thamilchelvam has ridiculed openly and lends no credence whatsoever towards involving the LTTE in any mechanism of an official perspective which as the end result could be far too great a risk to National Security with no guarantees towards its success! Point in case which significantly the Government Coalition Partner the JVP and the Buddhist Monks in Parliament the JHU have not minced their words about, in opposition to the President's convictions. By appeasing the LTTE through the Joint mechanism the Nation could be imperilled and compromised beyond redemption. That the Presidential move has been discouraged towards aspirations of a restructured mechanism which would also involve Regional Superpower neighbour, India comes as no surprise while the Nation of Sri Lanka (The Sinhala Nation) awaits anxiously, the outcome of the President's insistence that it seems, a do or die effort, on her part to involve the LTTE in the JM directly! She has sounded adamant in saying her life and safety may be at risk over her insistence to forge ahead with the plans to incorporate the LTTE. The wisdom involved seems questionable at best considering the implications relative to the LTTE track record and reputation. To further the hypothesis beyonfd the terrorist argument, the LTTE have no mandate as being fully representative of the entire Tamil Community in Sri Lanka. Other minorities such as the Muslims too may be adversely affected by granting them any recognition, something the big wigs of the International Arena seem to conveniently bypass! There has been an appreciable hue and cry amongst the younger generation of Sri Lankans of today, well versed in their politics and world affairs and also enmeshed in a perspective of Nationalist Patriotic and Sovereign Democratic definition. The President's attitude seems to be indicative of her paying homage to her Western World Peers which is an old world concept perhaps dating back to Colonialism. There seems reluctance on her part to stand up to what may be in the best interests of the Nation from a Sovereign and Territorial standpoint and oppose what she seems hell bent on affirming purely for its chattel benefits and the "Yes Sir! How High Sir?" concept. All things considered, all plaudits and praise to the JVP and the JHU whose tireless efforts towards building and maintaining an undivided Sri Lanka as a supreme Nation of Sovereignity for all Sri Lankans regardless of their ethnicities to lead free and unfettered lives. Their voices must never be dispelled as they constitute their own Joint Mechanism of noble objectives to rid Sri Lanka of Terrorism and the vermin which has plagued her for decades. An astute interpretation recently expressed by many concerned and patriotic Sri Lankans, both Nationally and Globally. Based on a recent survey suggests that the International Community at highest level may at times appear to be bifurcated bewilderingly in the manner demands are made of the Sri Lankan Administrative Establishment in order to dispense Foreign Tsunami Relief and other aid, conditional to the pandering and appeasing of proscribed unrelenting terrorists which also suggests remarkable apathy and a degree of ignorance! Perhaps the JVP and the JHU are the last bastion of hope for the Sinhala Nation faced with imminent peril due to the misjudgements of its hierarchy. Fully armed terrorists are once again being bartered with as the direction from within its hierarchial conscience seems to have digressed by far towards neglecting Nation preservation in the attempt to dance to the tunes of Foreign opinion and advice! Patriotism must override terrorism as the JVP and JHU demand without compromise ! "Breathes There A Man Who Never To Himself Has Said, This Is My Land! My Own Native Land?" |
