Rallying Of Opposition Parties should Push
For National Unity Between All Parties And Provide A Deterrent Towards
LTTE Ambitions!
It would be foolhardy to think that peace is just around
the corner in Sri Lanka today although it appeared to be so some months
ago and the main reason for the negative concept being the created impasse
by the LTTE in a helter skelter bid to gain recognition while being
thrust into the darkest recesses of contempt by the more rational powers
that be who recognize them for who they are and what they represent.
Not peace loving by any means and by no means full representation of
the Tamil Community most of whom appear to be fed up of their charades
and games which has brought about a very tentative state of affairs
as far as the functioning of Administrative order is concerned and has
given rise to what the analysts prefer to term anti peace activists
when in fact they are the honest peace activists with no pretenses.
Championing the new fangled concept of peace the JVP has ushered in
a new era of consciousness throught the land in an all out effort to
convice the people that theirs is a resistant movement dedicated to
the national cause whose moral obligation is to resist the transparencies
of the flawed Peace presently advocated by the Wickremasinghe Administration
constantly playing tag with the LTTE and eventually in for a probable
surprise as the tag game could easily turn nasty as it involves tigers
held by their tails whose viciousness could spill out into anarchy and
a just cause for the activists comprising of the JVP and PA to take
up a stance of defence to protect the sovereignity and territorial integrity
of the Nation as these seem to be in jeapordy relative to the direction
taken by the present administration whose reckless abandon through their
latest proposals seem to point in the direction of handing on a platter
to the LTTE what they failed to achieve through an armed insurrection
lasting decades.
The latest march by the JVP from Galle to Colombo has gained tumultuous
support from the masses as well as accolades from their PA associates
who now believe that through a solidarity between the two political
factions there lies a great possibility to secure the Nation from being
cast to the devil and to rally its strengths and reserves where the
instincts of betrayal and pretense of a false peace are quickly turned
around using the constitutional powers of the President and quite naturally
the will of the people although as a consequence the political climate
of the Nation could very well encounter a degree of turbulence where
the ruling party as an eventuality of a domino effect may be a subsequent
one to the present where the present incumbency might be replaced and
those taking over would have to tread carefully so as not to ursurp
the tranquility which has prevailed thus far since the original Peace
Process began and perhaps somewhat difficult to accomplish, all things
considered and in particular relating to the response of the LTTE.
Little wonder that presently the response of the Government has been
to counter the JVP / PA Alliance indicating a degree of instability
within its rank and file and already the Nation's economy appears to
be stumbling as a first casualty of this instability and the objectives
of the Government at the outset of the Peace Process and ceasefire which
centred around the improvement of the nation's economy and development
presently appearing to be in limbo and could easily be sent packing
if the trend continues and majorities and confidences are lost through
the withdrawal of support also by other visible mionorities!!
If indications are true and the UNF Administration is replaced by the
opposition thrust there still remains the unanswered question of dealing
with the LTTE who have gained strength in their reserves and brag about
their capabilities and preparedness for any eventuality which does not
detract from the reality that the seesaw effect of one administration
being replaced by another franchised universally and involving the will
of the Voting Public does not necessarily bring about a resolution in
keeping with the needs of the Nation but merely continues a speculative
investment by the peoples mandate which sometimes extends into a tiresome
monotony and drags on indefinitely.
Perhaps in the best interests of Sri Lanka in its present crisis mode
as far as the Peace Process is concerned and a means to belay the conniving
nature of the LTTE, a call for astute National Unity between all representative
parties seems the best option where the combination of the rallying
JVP, the supportive PA and incumbent UNF might be the most formidable
alternative to National bickering and the best incentive to quell any
aspirations by the LTTE towards their own surreptitious goals as the
strongest deterrent yet.
