LTTE Appear To Be Carving Out Their Undoing By Their Relentless Provocations !

The latest reports coming out of Sri Lanka's Defence Establishment indicate that despite its readiness to confront the insurgents terrorists of the LTTE, they do remain committed to uphold a Peace Process and Ceasefire that has been in place since February 2002. The LTTE Terrorists however to the contrary have stepped up their sporadic but deadly attacks against Sri Lankan Armed Forces personnel as well as civilians and have undeniably killed tens of thousands of people since the conflict began in addition to the latest attrocities including the detonation of mines and setting up ambushes which constitute acts of grave provocation against the defence forces of a Sovereign Democratic Nation.

This can only be construed rationally as provocation towards retaliatory measures which the Armed Forces will be coerced into despite the Peace Process and Ceasefire in effect which the LTTE view as a means according to the experts, designed to attract international attention towards a greater recognition of their orchestrated woes and a relinquishing of their condemned and outlawed status they have acquired by virtue of their mendacity and ruthless terror tacticts which includes suicide bombings! This is an apathetic neglect on their part of the realities which go with these acts of grave provocation as it would only augment the international condemnation that presently exists against their identity as terrorists and the LTTE are on a one way street to nowhere leading to a dead end from which there will not be a turning back beyond their eventual anihilation!

Something for which there will be no regrets in the greater scheme of things involving the freedom loving citizens of Sri Lanka including its minority Tamil Community, a greater proportion of which now has no love for the LTTE terrorists and have denounced and condemned their attrocities despite LTTE claims that they are the sole representatives of the Tamil community which in reality is a bogus claim!

Given all considerations towards justification, any decision towards defending Sri Lanka against the LTTE terrorists in the event of all out conflict by way of internal armed insurrection would thereby also incorporate the well being of the Tamil Community whose best interests would be protected alongside the rest of Sri Lanka.The Armed Forces of Sri Lanka therefore have every right to defend Sri Lanka's Sovereign Territory in the event that the LTTE violate at the highest level the Peace Process and the Ceasefire, signs of which are seemingly becoming painfully evident and to which the International Community is sadly showing indifference through the meaningless rhetoric emanating from certain world powers which truly should be expressed wth outright rather than veiled condemnation while joining the campaign to defend Sri Lanka from the LTTE threat which seems just about ready to rear its ugly head again albeit ineffectively to most intents and purposes given many areas of wherewithal lacking in their divided, disrupted and circumspect state of existence beyond a token perspective!

To counter any likey threat involving the speculations about LTTE objectives, Military sources have indicated that there has been a shake up in the Command Structure in the Jaffna peninsula after the latest wave of violence, although downplayed by Army Chief Sarath Fonseka who has stated that the shuffling of top personnel were routine, refering to the top commander in Jaffna Sunil Thennakoon being recalled while there have been several other changes at lower levels too, according to these sources. It is undoubtely an indication of the readiness of the Armed Forces which must convey a degree of security and assurances to the Nation that any LTTE actions detrimental to the well being of the Nation will be unfalteringl repelled

It seems Hobson's choice in the event of grave provocation that the Sri Lankan Military would be compelled to repel the present LTTE orchestrated violence which has already killed 31 people while also being obliged to consider the importance of the signed Peace Process and Ceasefire which may be forcibly sidelined out of sheer necessity and it is hope against all odds that sense and sensibility will eventually prevail towards upholding and honoring a ceasefire in place since February 2002 but then where has one seen any honor emanating from the LTTE who more often than not are inclined to kill and maim at random which has all but made 'honor' a figure of speech within their interpretations! The military therefore has to be on high alert and ready to meet any terrorist challenge after the latest upsurge in violence that killed 31 people, including 18 government soldiers according to a statement released by Army Top Brass and a stance which would seem very justifiable on the part of the Armed Forces notwithstanding the Peace Process and Ceasefire which would be deemed insignificant towards greater priorities!
For the time being despite concerted efforts by The LTTE terrorists who are trying to provoke Security Forces into a large scale operation by way of retaliation, the Military High Command has shown admirable restraint unlike the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and emphasized by Commander Daya Sandagiri who has said at a joint press conference by the heads of the army, air force and police" refering to the latest LTTE killings that "We should not get excited over small incidents like this," which is indeed a noteworthy response of high military integrity and honor but may not hold out if the LTTE continue to indiscriminately continue their campaigns of murder and mayhem for which they undoubtedly would pay a heavy penalty should the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka reverse their trend of thought towards restraint!

In another interesting response to the media which is encouraging towards the concept that the LTTE's aerial ambitions are not going unnoticed, Air Force Commander Air Vice Marshall Donald Perera said yesterday that"Combat Aircraft and other units were on alert to be deployed immediately. We are in full force in case the need arises, the Sri Lankan Air Force is in readiness to shoot down Tiger aircraft, if such a commodity exists and The Air Force will not hesitate in neutralizing the LTTE's air power if and when the need arises." and the first time a non tolerance of any speculated aerial activity by the LTTE has been indicated openly which augurs well for the confidence and strength of Sri Lanka's Air Defences!

He has further stated that"We should not think the LTTE has built an airstrip and acquired two light aircraft for the fun of it" adding that the Air Force had definite information on the light aircraft in the possession of the LTTE. There was also information that a second airstrip is being built by the LTTE also in a location within the area under their control in the Mullaitivu district. He continued that,"Should the LTTE try to fly its aircraft the SLAF will not hesitate to shoot them down". He said the SLAF staff committees had discussed the subject in depth and personnel of the SLAF had been briefed about the action necessary to be taken in the event of a contingency related to the aircraft in the hands of the LTTE. Defence Intelligence has gathered information about the airstrip built by the LTTE at Iranamadu, in the rebel controlled area, as well as information about their possession of two light aircraft. (T.I) which the LTTE and their champion Norway often down played until recently when their obstreperous mouthpiece Anton Balasingham has bragged from his safe haven in the UK about such capabilities as well as chemical weaponry in a blatant display of bravado.

There are many military resources and assertions in place including the Joint Regional Naval Defence Treaty signed between Sri Lanka and her southerly Superpower Giant India for the LTTE to contend with despite the recent backpedalling of India in response to the favours sought by President Rajapakse towards repelling the terrorist threat. They also has to contend beyond any measure of reasonable doubt that their arch enemy the Karuna Faction led by the relentless yet sane Col Karuna poses a very real effective threat towards matching their own subversive tactics. He has vowed to counter and negate the Wanni LTTE Tigers and with his cunning and expertise he would more than likely keep his promise. It could turn out to be an additional tour de force and a powerful one for the LTTE to contend with, particulary if their added support is granted legitimacy and acceptance by the Sri lankan Status Quo towards maintaining the Constitutionalised Accords of Sovereign State of Sri Lanka and a concession is also extended in recognition as the true representative at leadership level of the Tamil Community in Sri Lanka and a theme which is gaining great momentum at the present time!

The LTTE's reluctance to relent for their past crimes against humanity, denounce separatist objectives for themselves rather than the Tamil Community as the case appears to be in the present circumstances, decommission weaponry and join mainstream Sri Lankan society as law abiding citizens and the option they seem to be working towards namely further aggression against the Sovereign State of Sri Lanka will surely lead to their inevitable undoing!
