Why De-Banning Of The LTTE Is A Risky Gamble And Should Have Been A Non-
Consideration, Without Guarantees.
In lifting the ban on the LTTE The Wickremasinghe Government is not only gambling with the lives of millions but also the Security of the Nation. It has angered a vast majority of the Nations's population as well as the High Buddhist Clergy whose blessings the goonish mentality of the UNF Leadership falsely invokes intermittently in attempts to justify their dangerous gamble to which there will be no atonement should it backfire as the trust placed in the LTTE by the UNF Administration is surely a Misplaced one given the foremost consideration that there have been no assuarances or guarrantees from them towards denouncing their goals in any form. As most analysts have now concluded., this latest move by the Sri Lankan Government is an irresponsible and reckless one considering the reputation of the LTTE as being ruthless terrorists, whose credibility has reached zero levels and are proscribed Internationally although proscription in Sri Lanka these days somehow mean little or nothing. Apparently the posturing and rhetoric of the UNF Camp appears to be brimming with confidence that they hold the reins to resolving the Nation's problems with the ability to contain the LTTE if there is any adversity involving the Peace Process which by itself is a mythical concept considering the inroads the LTTE have already carved into the Nation's Secure Areas while fortifying their reserves and resources and the manner in which they have been granted all their demands unconditionally by an all trusting or perhaps an all conniving Ranil Wickremasinghe and a matter for great concern and wonderment that the powers that be cannot perveive the hypocrisy involved. Casting aside the prudence and wisdom of the President who vehemently insisted that any ban imposed on the LTTE should only be considered as an eventualty of positive indications that they are ready to come clean , denounce their objectives lay down their arms and join the mainstream of Sri Lankan Society where optimism is bowled over with statistics conducive to the reality that Pluralism is indeed a possibility and not a speculated one. It would be clownish and puerile to believe that a Pluralistic Society could be achieved without putting into perspective the reality that it must function collectively and in unison towards the development of the Nation undivided an dunfettered by ethnic hatred and lingering aspirations of a distinct society, a point never clarified by the LTTE. While the frightening reality of what this latest move by the UNF presents itself to be - A GRAVE RISK TO THE NATION - without a single consideration to the track record of the LTTE, it could also lead Sri Lanka into dire straits should the next step be taken in granting unconditional interim administrations in the North and Northeast as it would surely sound the death knell to the Sinhala Nation that its existence from then on might be a temporary one spread out over a period of time. Re-considerations after the reprisals manifest themselves disastrously would be a little too late and a point for the Administration to ponder upon despite its myopic vision of the issues at hand. Prudence and caution appear to have been thrown to the winds as the Nation waits in apprehension fo the unfolding of a new chapter to its history where there seems to be no cause for optimism even in a cautious form. Sadly the need for lasting peace is a supreme one for a Nation as torn apart as Sri Lanka and the forcefulness with which it needs to be accomplished seems to be imperative but in trying to acheive it through avenues which stand to jeopardize the very essence and lifeblood of the Sinhala Nation would altogether seem ridiculous as presently the direction chosen by the Administration is indicative of the unleashing of muffled and tied down individuals of a bestial nature, contained thus with justifiable reason who could eventually run amock and cause havoc rather than harmony considering their case history and track record!. Is the chance worth taking or is it too late already and a self inflicted Armageddon to follow?
