The Many Distractions Presented To the Administration Could Be Deliberately Set In Place And Must Be Heeded As They Could Be The Prelude To Unforeseen Disaster. If the primary objective of the present Administration is to bring about a lasting peace its high time the bickering stopped and priorities were set in place, advise from Wise Sages such as the Maha Sanga heeded and the unease of the Sinhala Nation was permanently settled in a harmonious manner and not superficially and temporarily. This cannot be effectively accomplished with the present 'cacophony of voices' in dissent about various issues, petty beyond the realm of logic at times and complicated far beyond the comprehensions of the melting pot of humanity comprising of the Sri Lankan Nation as the screaming goes on from various quarters of the ethnic divide and the occasional voice of religious dissent as presented recently. The Sinhalese who have a bounden right to address their woes, as well as the Tamils, Muslims and other minorities and inconclusively the LTTE suddenly given a semblance of importance by the UNF Government despite being a proscribed entity and regardless of whether or not they have the right to restitution. Their continued disruptions through interjections and contradictions are not providing the proper platform for the Administration to concentrate on its priorities and rather suspicious at this stage. The projected animosities between Buddhists, Christians, Muslims and other faiths certainly are a distraction and primarily the phobias presented by those who believe that the Buddha Sasana is endangered by Christian proselytism appears to be causing anxieties which are baseless and should be cast aside as all religious groups have a duty by their consciences to unite and aid the Peace Process rather than hamper it through Paranoia. However should there be visible and tangible evidence that there are indeed entities trying to capitalise through the state of affairs within the Nation and an aftermath of the LTTE Insurrection, the propagation of their particular faith, they need to be confronted. Christianity, Islam and other minority faiths it must be remembered, have existed within the Nation for centuries and must be given the respect they deserve, by a tolerant Buddhist Nation and a Democratic one. The greatest dilema facing the Wickremasinghe Administration appears to be the difficulty to appease fully the ethnic divide and its demands as they do not have a clear cut policy about who deserves to be appeased on a priority basis and to add to the plethora of woes in need of urgent panacea, the Tamil splinter groups led by the likes of insidious Thamilchelvam, pro-LTTE in devise and design, keep interrupting every move by the Administration which is a disruption of the progress towards a lasting peace. The Muslims led by Rauf Hakeem whose credentials need not be splashed around as being astute or credible by any stretch of the imagination, continues to create rifts within his own community shoving aside the only true voice of the Muslim People, the moderate Mrs Ashraff and the general climate within the Nation appears to be once again headed towards the inevitable deadlock from which there may not be a feasible emergence conducive towards Peace. The only viable order presented to the Nation has been the wisdom of the High Buddhist Clergy who have responded in being sharply critical of the Administration and the simplest analysis of their concerns display the necessary redress towards the well being of the Nation. That there can be absolutely no compromising of the Nation, its Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity and that their support for Presidential Authority in conjunction with the Administrations willingness to work in unison with the President's Mandate as laid down in the Constitution is the ultimate and only solution to the Nation's woes presently being compounded by minority dissent to say the least. So far there have been no representations of unity from the LTTE supportive areas of the ethnic divide in sincerity that they are indeed in search of a lasting peace, certainly not by the supporters of the Thamil Chelvam led cohorts of LTTE who now want the ousting of the present Tamil MP's in Parliament in order to be replaced by LTTE cadre and a message has to be sent out that the manipulative gestures of the LTTE are intolerable as they have not as yet proved their sincerity towards the well being of the Nation and are in no position to demand any rights before laying down their arms, halting the recruitment of personnel and denouncing their quest for Eelam! The importance of these vital elements relevant to posterity and the Future Of Sri Lanka is being voiced and hammered out by the President and all Opposition to the Administration's feebly presented MoU which is gradually emerging as being "a can of worms" which needs to be discarded, re-designed and re- written to guarantee the security of the Sinhala Nation bearing in mind that the De- Arming of anti LTTE Tamil Factions, the Arms Build Up of the LTTE through the offloading of weapons in territorial waters, the conscription of cadre whether they be chidren or otherwise and the continued insistence of their march towards Eelam are all dangerous warning signs which have to be heeded and concerns by the Sinhala Nation heeded to. The voices in dissent particularly those coming from pro-LTTE factions
could be the very distraction for the next Lightning Strike by the terrorists
which may well catch an unwary Nation basking in the false glory of imagined
peace! Troy must never be forgotten either!
