A Permanency To The Prevailing Calm And Tranquility Is Imperative To The NationAre these then the winds of change that all the sons and daughters of Lanka have prayed for and if so are they to expect any permanency despite the tentative nature of the relative tranquility and calm which appears to have created freedom of movement not seen in decades yet imperative to the Nation? The calm has prevailed for almost half a year primarily presently, because of contained self-control exercised by the Armed Forces under obvious orders of retraint, hesitancy on the part of the once oppressive LTTE who have been categorically curbed through restrictive tactics with literally nowhere to go except to the bargaining table and a few right moves at leadership level not excluding the Presidency which appear to have set the ball rolling in the right direction towards a restoration of normalcy which appears to be looming on the horizon, not definitively yet indicative of its plausibility with a little help from Powerful International Allies, so now seems a very appropriate time to consolidate and fortify the assurance that there will never ever be any form conflict within Sri Lanka ever again, one which almost destroyed its economy, drove away its tourists and hampered development to a degree which would otherwise have augmented the Nation to a similar footing with Singapore and other Asian industrialized Conglomerates of enviable record! Or even surpassed them. Curiously, although the LTTE superficially seem to be continuing their fortifications , there has also been an open relaxation of their attitude towards aggression and a recent report from their voice engine TamilNet through a prominent spokesperson has even scoffed at the suggestion that they would return to the battlefield in the event of a breakdown of communications with the Government which has all but politely requested "how high?" when asked to jump! and the paradox of peace through conciliation suddenly seems to augur well with the needs of the Nation centred around peace and peace alone in what appears to be a method to the madness which has laid bare areas of previous high classification and security which has not completely dispelled the nervousness of the Sinhala Nation whose scepticism continues. The UNF Government regardless of what appears to be in accordance with the well being of the Nation through their strategies, are still ruminating about the future vis a vis the anticipated possibility of the Sword of Damocles descending upon its head at the end of a years tenure should Madam President dissolve Parliament as the grey areas left untended have begun to appear as visible cracks in the form of the lawlessness in the land, the cataclysmic surge in the cost of living which is gradually choking the impoverished and the cyclic return to malpractices and shady deals involving certain administrative high ups quick to point fingers at the PA when they need to get their act together as their desperations are indicated by calls to impeach the President on the pettiest of issues all things considered and a call which will eventually end up being trashed due to the technicalities involved. And no thanks to further commissions of inquiry at a time when they are not a high priority in the least, which the taxpayer can ill afford !! Hoping against hope, the Sinhala Nation it appears, now awaits that eventual unity which will positively eliminate all the anomalies of uncertainty that threaten them including the direction which the LTTE would eventually take with a leadership hopefully and effectively despatched to India to face retribution and a revamped Tamil Community whose rights have been restored to them sans LTTE leg ups and hand outs which the LTTE are quick to assert in their pretentious championing of themselves on behalf of all Tamils which is none but a puerile myth! Daunting though the task may seem, in order to bring about a genuine
positive change in the Nation's development and rebuilding the sooner
all Sri Lankans cast aside their ethnic and feudal differences realizing
that here then is a golden opportunity which cannot be missed at least
for the sake of posterity and the future of generations to follow, the
better! and that it rests on the integrity of unity which will depend
upon the extent to which the gap is narrowed between the haves and the
have nots and the freedom of the individual which needs to be restored
to its entirety.
