Can Be No Concessions To The LTTE As Suggested By The US Deputy Secretary
Of State.
Perhaps its about time the USA was given a nudge that compromising with terrorists with reference to Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage's latest statement to theTamil Tigers would amount to a direct contradiction of US Policy on International Terrorism. Armitage has been quoted as saying that the US would consider removing the LTTE off the terrorist list if they renounced violence but what he fails to perceive is that he is endorsing them as a viable entity overlooking what they have to account for by way of crimes against a Sovereign Nation. What next? Would Osama Bin Laden and Al Quaeda too be taken off the hook too! if they denounced their terror tactics and promised to come clean which would then be applicable to all terror organizations around the world or is this another example of the USA speaking out of turn where the greater responsibility towards eliminating terrorism is applicable only to US interests and none other? Perhaps a graphic dossier of the attrocities committed by the LTTE should be presented to this individual to make him more aware of the harm the LTTE has done to Sri Lanka and the utter ambiguity of his concept of speculated conditional acceptance exposed in order to help him fully understand the gravity what he is implying. There can be no concessions to terrorists on the rationale that tigers never change their stripes as being demonstrated currently by the LTTE! It seems to be a sad reality that the LTTE continue unabated in their drive towards their goals and world opinion about terrorism has had little effect on them.Their arms smuggling, child recruitment and attacks on public personalities and civilians continue making a mockery of all the legislative accords within Sri Lanka while a complacent UNF Goverment indulges in a charade of Peace Negotiations and a more likely area for the USA to be concerned about if they are truly genuine in their aspirations towards the future of Sri Lanka where no terrorist entity has any justification for recognition or acceptance and needs to be put down and eliminated rather than being accepted as a part of the Sri Lankan infrastructure! There are no ' ifs' and 'buts' as outlined in the US Representative's dialogue corelating to the LTTE moving beyond their terror tactics as the stark reality is that they are continuing their drive beyond reasonable doubt in the Northern and North Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka violating the ceasefire blatantly and the reference to a commitment to peace a mere figure of speech in as far as the LTTE are concerned as what takes place at the bargaining tables overseas involving the Balasinghams and the Peiris' and what transpires on terra firma involving LTTE cadre at home are entirely two different things .Perhaps it may be a consideration to rephrase the Armitage euphimism to sound like"Perhaps The United States Will Certainly Consider Removing The LTTE From Existence Together With All Terror Groups In Considering Their Continued Presence As A Stumbling Block Towards Peace!" Latest reports indicate that the LTTE have now launched a new campaign with a view towards annexing a Japanese Aid Package which could more than likely end up in their hands rather than in the hands of the administrators allocated towards rebuilding the areas devastated by the LTTE for which the Aid was sent and once again a travesty of justice and a misdirection of funds are more than likely to ensue much to the chagrin of the Government whose conciliatory gestures to the LTTE have been amply taken advantage of as they roam free and uncontrolled in sheer arrogance. Sanctions, denial of travel concessions, the freezing of assets and any threatened punitive action thus far has hardly checked the forward surge of the LTTE as the world knows and the global network set in place by the LTTE though restricted to a degree still continue to function and any indication on the part of any world superpower to rescind even conditionally these impositions would only spur on the LTTE in the belief that they are being accepted, tolerated or have been give the mandate to continue and the sooner the dialogue tantamount towards giving the LTTE an inadvertent go ahead is discontinued, the better it would be for a Nation struggling to rebuild ironically from LTTE devastation. Despite the rhetoric of World Leaders there can be no justification towards accommodating entities committed to terrorist activities despite their feigned sincerities as a hide saving measure interpreted by the more moderate rather gullibly as genuine and unless there is a complete denouncement of their goals towards secession, a discontinuation of child conscriptions and a decommissioning of weapons demonstrated by actions rather than words which seems unlikely at present, there can be no concession of recognition granted to terrorists who need to be apprehended and brought to justice rather than being labelled acceptble in a democratic society.
