The
Wisdom Of The Forum Of Buddhist Monks Towards A Real Normalcy.
The Recent congregation of Buddhist Monks in the Colombo Suburb of Nugegoda is an eye opener for the Nation and the realities of what may lie in store for Sri Lanka which have been expressed in clear wisdom in an undeniably stark manner which needs to be paid great attention to, realities which go far beyond the nearsighted logistics of the Peace Process as viewed fractionally by some and a cause for great concern in the eventuality of a worst case scenario presented by the forum at this multitudinous rally and stated unequivocally as a Peace Process in the name only of Peace but in reality one which is driving the Country to a real division to appease the terrorist organization the LTTE and its sympathisers and linked to what the leadership of the present administrations perceives as 'spoils' towards personal gain. Betrayal of the Nation by its present Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has been cited in no uncertain terms with the main objective expressed as the quest for personal power where analogies have been drawn to the eventual fate which overcame named dictators such as Marcos of the Philippines and Suharto of Indonesia to which may be added the likes of Don Juan Dharmapala, the Shah of Iran, Slobodan Milasovich of Serbia and a host of others who were eventually upended prior to their incarceration or banishment or both. The Prime Minister is not without grey areas relevant to his track record where his cunning manouverability at times has cast aside considerations towards personal integrity as the record proves according to many analysts. To complement the protestations of this meeting there are numerous voicings of disagreement from many quarters both Nationally and Globally that neither the idealogue of the LTTE AntonBalasingham nor the LTTE organization represents all of the Tamil Community involved in the internal conflict as is the similar illustration that Rauf Hakeem is not a full representation of the fractured Muslim Community at loggerheads with each other at leadership level and the misgivings of the governing UNF Party have been clearly illuminated to a perceivable norm where the Sinhala Nation has been put at risk.In this respect it may be added that neither does Ranil Wickremasinghe represent all of the Sinhala Nation but a mere quotient of its bourgeoisie and by no means its underprivileged desperately searching for a return to a real lasting peace. Likened to the wisdom of the sages of historical times when the Nation was protected by a compassionate veil of wisdom against pervading evil from its enemies by the vast combines and strengths of the Buddhist faith and Buddha Sasana which has contributed to the continuation of the unitarity of Sri Lanka for centuries, this rally has brought to mind that there are but a few remaining vestiges of protection for the Nation presently being innundated with rebel radio broadcasts from previously outlawed terrorist sources and the freeflow of suicide bombers throughout the country which the administration deems necessary towards a buildup of cordiality between their once sworn enemy. Adding credence to the many accusations levelled at the Government that it was dancing to the superfluous tunes of the LTTE was the alarming proclamation that there was even an attempt to change the National Anthem of Sri Lanka to incorporate the needs of LTTE idealogies camouflaged as necessities towards appeasing the Tamil Community and something to which the administration may have to atone for as there appears to be tangible evidence that prominent classical Sinhala Composers have been consulted for their input into the matter and falls short of treasonous sacrilege should the accusations be proven. There is speculation that the National Flag has also been envisioned as 'subject to change' and what further assertions are needed towards the conclusions of Buddhist Wisdom as expressed that this indeed is a betrayal of the Nation? Idealogically yet thus far superficially there has been a sense of prevailing calm within the Nation and a tranquility which has not been experienced for decades throught Sri Lanka though many skeptics wonder whether it is a calm prior to the unleashing of another fury and many Sri Lankans though seeming unguarded in their zeal to embrace the attributes of this new found tranquility proceed with great caution not knowing where the path to the future leads as there appear to be too many compromises which contradict the guarantee of their security and a point stressed greatly by the wisdom of the Buddist Monks at the recent rally which was an exercise in soul searching for the Sinhala Nation. While the primary emphasis contested with the greatest enthusiasm in recent times at most forums of opposition being deception at administrative level there also seems to exist, a detraction from moral obligations to the communities within the Nation as a whole where the Government pays homage to entities which do not represent them completely in a deviation from principles attributed democratically and thunderous is the significance of the message being conveyed to the Nation by what may be described as its real protectors which must be heeded towards a real normalcy. The message conveyed to the political leaders and the administration has been comprehensive, elementary and logical that there can be no peace without the de- commissioning of weapons by the terrorist, that beyond any doubt all legal statues within the land need to be adhered to at all times and the imperative need for the freedom of the press as well as the individual to be nmaintained at all times quoting thus: This unitary country of ours , Sri Lanka should not be divided on the lines of race, language or religion. Any proposals or discussions leading to such divisions should be rejected fully. Those who are engaged in a conspiracy to divide the country by hiding behind a "peace curtain" should be stopped immediately. In self less service to the people all bhikkus should be united. Until the separatist terrorist organization, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam give up its separatism and terrorism by laying down its arms the Sri Lanka Army should not withdraw the high security zone. All citizens in any part of the country should enjoy full democratic liberties guaranteed by the constitution. We thoroughly condemn the fascist dictatorship implemented by the LTTE disallowing alternative Tamil parties to exist. Rule of law should be safeguarded in the country. All obstacles to the media by the government to black out news and other interferences should be immediately stopped. The newspapers should be allowed to be engaged in their legitimate duties. All races should be treated equally and equitably. All foreign efforts to disrupt national unity and spread racism in order to make the whole island a theatre of war should be defeated. Immediate action should be taken to put a stop to conspiracies of certain missionaries to create religious rifts and divide the country" end quote. These are not prophesies of doom for Sri Lanka based on conjecture by the congregation of the Buddhist Monks but evaluations based upon the realities in all wisdom of what has encompassed the Nation as an aftermath of the insidious Peace Process which flaunts the arrogance of a band of terrorists and the high handed attitude of an errant Goverment in a combined expression of symbiotic unitarity between themselves only! as the core issues have been pre-empted in a 'cart before horse' mentality where priorities and principles have been discarded in the name of peace and the security of the Nation still hangs in the balance.
