Concessions
To The LTTE Cannot Be Granted In Throwing Caution To The Winds And At The
Risk To National Integrity. The Roadblocks within the Metropolis are fast dissapearing, the containers of essentials to the 'Poor Displaced People' of the Vanni are beginning to roll in while the poor displaced other people throughout the land await their turn at restitution and ere long the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam are likely to be granted National Hero Status ala Jayalath Jayawardena's bestowance of figurative Knighthoods backed by a puny spineless Administration which has never once called for answers to Containers in the Indian Ocean outside Sri Lankan territorial waters offloading weaponry and military paraphanelia into flotillas of Sea Tiger Craft nor questioned the endearing peace initiatives of Norway backed LTTE theoreticians (or should they be re-named theatricians) who have so far rather covertly avoided the issue of de-commissioning their weapons in a manner reciprocated by the Irish Republican Army, The Chechniyan Rebels and The Kosovo Liberation Army, The Sandanista Rebels and the other Bona Fide Nation Liberators around the World who have at least in principle agreed to lay down their arms and denounce their objectives prior to approaching the bargaining table for peace. Somehow, the Present Administration appears to have harnessed the proverbial 'Cart Before The Horse' attitude in how it is going about the unenviable task of restoring a normal order to Sri Lanka's woes and the picture being conveyed to the World is one of subjugation without caution and makes many analysts wonder rather incredulously whether the gamble being taken by the Wickremasinghe Administration would cure ot kill. Grant the LTTE their demands and being the" humane, uncompromising, people loving non sycophantic, genteel harbingers of peace" they project themselves to be Mr. Wickremasinghe probably believes he is on the right track towards restoring normalcy even in some small measure. Although it is pure speculation and conjecture at this stage, there have been indications through statements made recently by big wigs in the UNP caucases that they are indeed willing to accede to LTTE demands such as de- proscription and lifting of embargos regardles of the compromises, and the danger to its integrity the Nation of Sri Lanka could face in the event of the failure of the Peace Initiative and the reason why failure appears to be staring them in the face is rather obvious. They are neither calling the shots nor are they in the driving seat towards acheiving a lasting peace as to all intents and purposes they are being subjugated and manipulated by the most evident force which has many a time plummeted them to ground level, Indecision towards the Nation's Priorities revealing a soft underbelly which the other side has invariably exploited to their own advantage. Unilateral Decision making at the highest level of Administration guaranteeing the Security of the Nation alas has not been the forte of the present leadership and neither has it been that of previous regimes where subjugation to the guile and cunning of the LTTE has often times been a stark reality and in times gone by has had the backing of the might of India whose dictatorial demands through the respective Gandhi Administrations literally forced Sri Lanka's hand in their forced conciliations to the LTTE. Now however, the climate has changed where India has vehemently maintained its stand in its non recognition of the LTTE Organisation affirming the criminality of their identity and warned Sri Lanka of the consequences of speculative deals being entered into with their past track record and the viciousness of their Modus Operandi and there seems to be absolutely no need for the begging bowl of complacency to be extended to the terrorists who are with their backs to the wall and resorting to pulling out all stops in trying to save their hides albeit the absence of contrition on their part and superimposed by an arrogance that confounds sane minds. An incentive for the Sri Lankan Government to press home its advantage rather than prevaricate. The President in all wisdom has voiced her opinion on the barnstorming attitude of the UNP 'gung ho' in their willingness to unconditionally bend to the demands of the LTTE and has spoken wisely in cautioning the Wickremasinghe Administration to tread lightly despite roadblocks being lifted, and shipments of materials including concrete and batteries!! together with all the other anomalies sought by the 'Vanni Republicans' currently being delivered to them and their demand for de-proscription in their new found favour with the New Administration looking more likely to materialise the LTTE appear to be rather jubilant. Has Troy Been Forgotten In Some Small Measure! and could it be repeated in Sri Lanka After all the centuries gone by? Certainly some Lankans may breathe easy at not having to stop at roadblocks and the possibility of being able to drive along newly constructed highways leading into the open spaces of the North and East (at times land mined!) but have they paused for a moment to ponder the possibilities of the intensity with which violent reprisals could easily erupt should there be a breakdown of communications where the enemy could already have succesfully infiltrated into Majority Sinhalese populated areas and the Security Force Muffled through ridiculous speculations and the free access granted the LTTE could project mayhem! or is this a caution the Wickremasinghe Administration has already thrown to the winds in a repetiton of the J.R.Jayawardena Ahimsa whose devastating consequences still echo in the minds of many?
