The President's Cautions About the LTTE Must be Responded To, There Can Be No Risk Taking Involving The Security Of The Nation.

It would be foolhardy to dispel as mere conjecture Presidential warnings to the Nation that Tamil Tiger rebels have sent 840 suicide bombers to unleash a wave of attacks if the Peace Process breaks down or is unacceptable to their terms and demands. Far fetched as this sounds the ramifications of such an unforeseen eventuality could be catastrophic for the already distressed Nation recovering from its torrid upheavals of infamy perpetrateed by the LTTE.

As they have been proven in the past the LTTE have been very capable of taking advantage of indifferences on the part of previous Administrations to strike home an advantage in their favour and resort to any means to traumatize the Nation which may entail veiled threats which at the present time they might not necessarily be able to substantiate or justify but all things considered and given the intelligence reports confirming the degree to which they have augmented their resources there can be no chances taken on the importance of fortifying National defences to the point where it would convey to the LTTE how futile it would be to even attempt any further attrocities intended to ursurp the Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity of Sri Lanka.

Nevertheless there seems to be very few choices left to the Administration as well as the President towards resolving any LTTE threat other than by confrontational dialogue which would involve representation from the Global Coalition against International Terrorism and consequently the Super Powers such as the United States and India who according to the Prime Minister have pledged their support towards the preservation of Sri Lanka as a Sovereign Nation and an opportune time for the Ranil Wickremasinghe Administration to put its money where the mouth is and prove to the Nation with more than meaningless rhetoric that the LTTE can indeed be contained and that they do not have to pose a threat National Security if the Armed Forces and their adminstrators stand committed with substance as accorded through a unification of ideas undivided towards the preservation of the Sinhala Nation! and of course with a little help from friends!

This may however be somewhat difficult to accomplish as the UNF Administration now needs to disprove Madame President who contends that the LTTE have been for sometime posing a clear threat to the Nation with the proven inroads they have made into strategic areas within the Capital Colombo where the Prime Minister downplays the fears of the President on his assumption that the United States and India will be a deterrent towards any LTTE aggression while ignoring the foremost reality that conjectured help from the respective Superpowers might not necessarily be the remedy Sri Lanka needs to alleviate her problems especially considering the fact that it might not be there in reality contrary to the Prime Minister' assurances to the Nation as there have been no corroborations to this effect from either of the Superpowers or any source of information for that matter!

Ironically the people of Sri Lanka stand to become unwilling victims in a scenario beyond the norms of their democratic entitlements if the Administration continues to pander to the LTTE and ignore its greater responsibilities towards securing the Nation from its enemies in the false hope that restitution for Sri Lanka's woes will come with imagined compromise from the terrorists whereas there is every likelihood that the LTTE could easily attempt their coercive tactics which have subjugated past adminstrations and totally confound any thoughts towards a real resolution which would further complicate the state of affairs within the Nation and somewhat of a bitter pill to swallow for all concerned!

The Sinhala Nation appears to have become somewhat of an unwilling pawn in this latest game of chess by the present incumbent Administration and probably needs greater assurances then those of the Prime Minister to assert the reality that Sri Lanka is indeed secure from any planned LTTE insurgency especially in the face of revelations the President who has disclosed that there was sufficient information from Sri Lankan Military Intelligence and investigative research by opposition factions indicating that the guerrillas were preparing to mount attacks and to unleash violence where the Nation could be sliding towards a dangerous situation where LTTE attrocities could very well commence in North eastern and Eastern Sri Lanka in a worst case scenario.

Since there is a great deal of agitation presently initiated by the LTTE in these regions and there appears to be no conjecture on the part of Presidental sources whose anxieties are based on reliable Army Intelligence information and need to be heeded with objectives towards dispeling any threat to National Security with much more than mere verbal assurances such as those of the Prime Minister. The dilemma towards a viable solution therby grows, visibly presenting unsurmountable problems not only towards the continuity of the Peace which has lasted thus far but also towards the direction in which Sri Lanka might be headed should the Peace Process breakdown completey!

To compound matters and pertaining to the alarm raised by the President,LTTE cadre including suicide bombers who appear to be in readiness towards ursurping the peace process in an eventuality disfavourable to their demands notwithstanding the extent of the Peace which has lasted thus far appear to have been spotted in previously secure areas within the Capital City of Colombo which the Wickremasinghe Administration dispels as paranoia but can there be any risk taking at this stage of Sri Lanka's existence to justify any furthern attrocities by the LTTE where an ultimate grievous price might be part of a devastating eventuality?
