A New President Capable Of
Restoring Sri Lanka To Her Past Glory !
With a new Executive President installed in Sri Lanka, in a very turbulent
political climate there are many analysts who believe that here then
is a President who could bring much calm to the troubled Nation of Sri
Lanka through his politicall savvy acquired from an astutely political
background which he virtually grew up in and someone who could take
measured steps rather than rush into swift unmitigated decision making
towards establishing and maintaining the calm and refurbishing th economy
which is nevertheless imperative towards restoring order within the
Nation after a hotly contested Presidential elections and many dissatisfied
losers whose negative input into Mr.Rajapakse's victory seems never
ending!
Almost comfortingly it is believed that in like manner of Presidents
past, he may follow a path of safety taking no chances towards ruffling
the feathers of foreign allies who matter and exercise great wisdom
and caution in all his policy making although he is reputed to be someone
who might not necessarily bow down to peer pressure (Obviously foreign)
where he could apply his own terms of moderation in dealing with administrative
issues.
In the past it has been observed that Presidents in the aftermath of
their victories have shown a tendency to follow up their victories through
immediate parliamentary elections towards testing the real mood of the
Nation relative to the presidential win, which if devised as a necessity
by the new administration could bolster it's strength towards confidences
needed to face the road ahead. They have as expected of the New President
pursued their direction conservatively in order to appease both the
Nation as well as the supportive Foreign Powers with the priorities
weighed evenly. In the simplest of terms the New President too is expected
to tread lightly at the outset in how the Nation is administered despite
many pressing issues which may seem in need of radical resolution. A
legacy bestowed upon Sri Lanka with little thanks to the previous Wickremasinghe
administration which left behind a conundrum of bad decision making
relative to both the ethnic issue which eventually became meaningless
despite an ongoing Peace Process and Ceasefire as well as the flailing
economy which remained and became a morass of uncertainty until the
political turnaround which projected the UPFA into power and expelled
the UNP despite itself being unable to resolve fully the issues at hand
which were overly complex within a seemingly nationally and ethnically
divided Sri Lanka.
The new President therefore is undoubtedly faced with the daunting task
of correcting many wrongs left behind by previous administrations as
well as the imperative task of Tsunami rebuilding which cannot remain
on the back burner for much longer and there can be no avoidance or
circumventing the issues at hand which needs all the support fom all
concerned towards accomplishing with any measure of success by Sri Lanka's
Executive Leadership.A Leader behind whom all patriotic Lankans must
stand firm without compromise in the absence of which the Nation will
falter in the face of its adversaries and the adversities they are more
than likely to create in their dissapointment at the loss of the Presidency
insidiously backed by the LTTE who would like nothing better than a
failed new Administration!
While avoiding administrative pitfalls which are likely to be created
by the opposition, the delicate balance between facing upto issues relative
to the Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity of Sri Lanka while dealing
with the ethnic issue synonymously and re- structuring Sri Lanka's shaky
economy relative to its GDP and chief income sources there can be no
backing out of big decisions that may seem appropriate towards resolution
despite how they are viewed by many critics out to discredit him by
virtue of his accords with the JVP and the JHU which many rationally
thinking Sri Lankans believe projected the Rajapakse win and a source
of steely strength towards LTTE ambitions towards their own agenda!
The New President H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa has always maintained as have
many patriotic sons and daughters of the Nation whose perceptions envision
its compromising nature, serious concerns about the Ceasefire Agreement
with the LTTE signed by former Prime Minister Wickremesinghe during
his tenure in 2002. He has had serious reservations about the role played
by the Norwegian peace brokers who have blatantly overstepped their
assignment as facilitators to the point of LTTE supportive interference
and has subsequently cold shouldered the Norwegians without reservation
where very significantly Norway has been notably ignored in his acceptance
speech pointing towards his dissentments about Norway being permitted
any further participation in the Peace Process per se and the possibilities
of an alternative source being sought after more than likely. This is
an impasse which the President would have to manouvre around with dexterity
as the Western allies of Sri Lanka seem to think fit that Norway's involvement
is imperative to the cause and to irk the wrath of Western Allies on
whom the Nation depends heaviy for Foreign Aid an unavoidable No No!
Catch 22 as it apparently seems the writing appears to be on the wall
for Norway where the Foreign Powers concerned perhaps need to rehash
their trend of thougt about the futilities of Norway's further involvement
in Sri Lankas peace process and contribute towards finding a viable
alternative without pro- LTTE bias!
Dubbed a hawkish, leftist hardliner by some of his critics the New President
of Sri Lanka has engaged possibly the greatest challenge of his life
in taking on the administrative reins of Sri Lanka where much hope and
faith on the part of his Nation is pinned on his leadership and direction
as someone who might be termed Sri Lanka's proudest son of the day.His
pragmatic approach towards how he deals with issues has already been
observed through the calm and tranquil nature of his conduct in his
post Election Dialogue and dispensations of his idealogies for the nation
which has probably been observed by many sources who have had trepidations
about his capabilities which in the normal order of things relating
to Sri Lanka appear to be at an uncomparable Zenith with respect to
his predecessor as time will surely attest to his successes. If his
present congenial demeanour combined with wise decision making prevails
on a parallel with the tumultuous support he has from the Sinhala Nation
where all De Trop pretenders to Sri Lanka's well being need to be vanquished
systematically through the process of gradual elimination within legitimate
means Sri lanka will certainly be the Pride of Asia once more with much
of her past glory restored!
