UNP's Attitude Towards The LTTE
Could Hamper And Destroy Secured Integrity.
When considering accepted norms in interpreting their identity the LTTE
do not logically demand respect as they neither represent the Tamil Community
as a Whole nor have they conducted themselves in a manner conducive to
Sri Lankan Society where the Well Being Of The Nation and its overall
preservation has ever been a priority, so why the softness on the part
of the UNP Government to suddenly be moderate towards them? Have they
been deluded into believing that somehow in the cobwebbed recesses of
their minds there lies a Utopian Answer to the terrorist dilemma through
the vagaries of speculation, backpedaling on the issue of exterminating
a contagious and poisonous entity and consorting with their fork tongued
spokespeople such as Anton Balasingham and his ilk, all the while hanging
onto a pipe dream in dragging out skeletons in the closet such as the
failed Norwegian nudged Peace initiative which appears to be re-surfacing
probably at the taxpayer's expense.
There appears to be some kind of desperation on the part of the UNP
Government to somehow compromise Sri Lanka's Integrity through facile
and vapid overtures to the LTTE in the fervent and futile hope that it
will restore peace and prosperity. That the LTTE are gradually attempting
to sneak in an advantage has been clearly visible through the latest attempt
by 20 LTTE Cadres to cross Security Forces' Lines in the East, probably
a puerile attempt by their suicide bombers to once again infiltrate into
vital areas where mass havoc could be wreaked. The recent discovery of
a massive Arms shipment in the Indian Ocean adds to the consensus that
the LTTE have not been suddenly transformed into a group of submissive
lambs! The real consensus has been set in place by the Alliance Against
International Terrorism demanding a wiping out of All Forms Of Terrorism
With No Exception.
In the meantime, the pompous Prime Minister taking much for granted
though all the while languishing in the shadow of the Presidency, is proclaiming
the need to lift Military Embargos and relaxing the stranglehold the Security
Forces now have on the LTTE and its about time he cleared his cobwebbed
trend of thought and linked up with Presidential Rationale where peace
initiatives definitely are in order, though not through any unconditional
relaxation of security, embargos or de-proscription which in an International
as well as a National sense in any case seems beyond his jurisdiction
and obtuse as far as their consequential implications are concerned and
could only be detrimental to the Nation.
The Primary Criteria for any negotiations for peace between the factions
of the Government and the LTTE must involve an unconditional laying down
of arms and denouncing the dogma of a Separate State while accepting responsibility
for the decades of atrocities which have devastated the economy and lives
of innocent peace loving ordinary people and through all their pontificating
about the need for peace and their ability to restore it the UNP have
so far been unable to display their assertiveness towards any of these
factors which are of primary importance towards considering peace.
Armed Tigers with cyanide capsules around their necks, and bodies strapped
with explosives do not a Peace Process Make nor facilitate!. De-commissioning
of weapons and removing landmines, an initiation of Tribunals for Crimes
Against Humanity for the ringleaders of infamy and a denouncement of any
future attempt to divide the Nation whether through armed aggression or
propaganda are the foremost considerations for a realistic peace which
will remain out of reach as long as the dialogue is mere rhetoric intended
to fool the voting public who all trustingly asserted a change in the
Administration.
The wisdom of the Sage who once proclaimed " The Importance To Secure
Uncompromisingly, What Has Been Secured Even Partially Is Imperative,
Lest The Viciousness Of The Evil Which Seeks To Destroy, Takes Over And
Overruns What Has Already Been Secured" an ancient Chinese Proverb seems
totally applicable in present times in Sri Lanka.
